The Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation, under general direction, assists the Director with operational, financial and personnel functions of a comprehensive collegiate recreation program. Position serves as the central administrator for venue management, equipment purchases and maintenance, programs/events, customer service and risk management. Position proactively implements and ensures adherence to all A&M System, University and department specific business, operation, safety, rules, procedures and regulations.
Oversees daily special event programming; Aquatics and Outdoor Adventure Program; Campus Recreation inventory; reservations and scheduling of Campus Recreation venues; Campus Recreation Operation Services and technology.
Collaborates with the Associate Director of Programs and the Director to ensure continuous development and implementation of customer service models and principles.
Develops procedures for documenting and cataloging business processes, protocols, and policies for assigned programs, services, and departmental units.
Administers and supervises all aspects of assigned programs and services, and ensures monthly program evaluation’s and reports are completed for both long and short term goals.
Oversees contract and student payroll compliance (departmental, University, State, and Federal) for assigned programs and units. This includes setting/approving rate of pay, approving hours, contract labor agreements, and contract and payroll processing.
Assists with developing, monitoring and analyzing quantitative analysis of current and future programs and services in order to develop new initiatives, maintain adequate membership base, and meet the needs of various target populations. Assists with reviewing the Campus Recreation mission, vision and core values to ensure alignment with annual Institutional Effectiveness (IE) department goals. Assists with IE goals documentation and reporting.
Serves as a liaison to campus wide EMS services for Campus Recreation. Maintains, monitors, and inputs data into the EMS facility scheduling software system to meet Campus Recreation needs for reserving and scheduling campus recreation venues, student travel documentation, and risk assessment submissions.
In the absence of the Director, assumes all administrative and signature authority necessary to manage a comprehensive collegiate recreation program.
Collaborates with the Director concerning special/capital projects: planning; budgeting; bidding; and management of construction of new facilities, services, and equipment.
Develops, implements, documents, and oversees a comprehensive risk management plan focusing on a Campus Recreation Emergency Action Plan and the instruction and certification of Blood Borne Pathogen & First Aid/CPR education and training of Campus Recreation staff.
Recruits, hires, trains, motivates and supervises professional and student employees. Meets, monitors and coordinates regular and annual work appraisals and evaluations.
Serves as liaison to Service Solutions Corporation (SSC) ensuring all campus Recreation facilities, grounds, maintenance, and custodial needs are met through the yearly preparation of preventative maintenance schedules and rotations on a daily, weekly, monthly, and semester basis.
Works closely with the Director to develop, implement, and monitor Campus Recreation budget and makes budget recommendations for assigned programs and units.
Oversees all equipment purchasing, inventory, and maintenance for assigned programs and units.
Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Eight years of progressive full-time experience in recreational sports programming, student affairs, and/or athletic management, including two years of supervisory experience. Experience working with budgets and risk management.
Current First Aid & CPR Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Experience or knowledge of recreation management software. Oral and written communication skills.
Master’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Sports Administration or related field of higher education. Experience managing Aquatics & Outdoor Adventure programming. Experience maintaining or using Event Management Systems or similar reservations and scheduling software. Knowledge and experience with implementing a nationally or academically recognized customer service model.
The Department of Campus Recreation is the most dynamic growing area at Texas A&M University-Commerce. Home to ten professionals and five graduate assistants, Campus Recreation strives to serve the students, faculty and staff, and the community of Commerce. With a state-of-the-art facility including two basketball courts, four racquetball courts, three levels of cardio and weight training, a climb...ing and bouldering wall, two sand volleyball courts, two outdoor basketball courts, and an outdoor pool and spa. Campus Recreation directs the Outdoor Adventure Center which includes ropes course featuring high and low ropes elements, disc golf course, bike repair shop, and newly added bike trail. 2017 will be an exciting year for this position as Campus Recreation we opened in April our newest expansion project of an outdoor MAC Court facility and break ground on a new Tennis facility. These projects are part of the first phase of expansion for Campus Recreation, with a building expansion of weight room and cardio space schedule to begin construction in approximately two years.
