Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Campus Recreation, the Facilities Coordinator is a newly created position to serve in the new, state of the art, 118,700 square-foot Mashouf Wellness Center (MWC) opening in 2017. The incumbent oversees and supervises the smooth operation and general supervision of the Mashouf Wellness Center (MWC), including working directly with student employees. Areas of oversight include building systems such as building access, security systems, building management system controls, facility repair and maintenance, and overall cleanliness and hygiene. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for oversight of reservations and scheduling, as well as event set-up for spaces within the MWC.
The incumbent works collaboratively with the university’s Facilities Services to maintain high standards of functional and aesthetic quality for a building striving to achieve and retain LEED Platinum certification. This person must be able to communicate effectively and have detailed follow-through with those entities who provide custodial, maintenance, engineering, and groundskeeping services for the Mashouf Wellness Center. He/She must be able to set up a system of regular and thorough facility checks that help identify, document, and report potential issues that need to be addressed as well as monitor the status of the issues until completed or closed.
This is a one (1) year probationary position.
The employee will become permanent at their classification, upon successful completion of the probationary period.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods normally obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations.
Thorough knowledge or policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty.
Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques.
Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Expertise in investing and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications.
Demonstrate ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form.
Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
- Master's Degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Exercise Science, or a related field. - Knowledge of green building design and operations, and specifically LEED Platinum criteria. - Understanding of the application of student development concepts. - Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters. - Experience with developing and promoting programs and services within area of oversight through a lens of social justice, sustainability, accessibility, and non-traditional as well as traditional programming. - Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Strategic Values and Core Competencies for NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, and SF State¿s Strategic Plan values. - Experience supervising college students in a college campus setting. - Experience with new facility operations development and implementation. - Experience overseeing facility operations - including creating and implementing usage policies particularly in a college environment; using membership software; overseeing equipment issue operations; overseeing facility risk management; managing facility access. - Demonstrated technology, software, and hardware skills including the use of Microsoft Office, email and the internet. - Experience providing high quality customer service, and contributing to a positive, friendly, work and wellness environment. Ability to: - Oversee daily facility operations including staffing, usage policy enforcement, maintenance, risk management, space rentals and event setup, and collecting, interpreting, and reporting usage data. - Work effectively with students who have a variety of skill and experience levels, and who will be working in various levels, from entry to program management levels. - Rapidly acquire general knowledge of overall operation and functions of facility operations. - Assess the safety, risk management, and environmental needs as applied to the facility operations area within the department. - Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning and implementing short and long-range improvements. - First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification, LEED Green Associate Certification.
Incumbent's duties take place mostly in an office setting or member interface spaces, with primary locations at the Mashouf Wellness Center. Incumbent must be able to succeed in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; work variable nights, weekends and/or holidays, on-campus or off-site, indoors and outdoors, depending upon work conditions and demands, including an occasional overnight stay; use computers and other communication tools for extended periods of time; and competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and campus community.
