The Facilities and Aquatics Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing and Informal Recreation. Working within the Division of Student Affairs in the Student Recreation and Wellness Services department the Manager, Facilities & Aquatics manages, schedules, and coordinates all aspects of the Aquatic facilities. They provide guidance, student development, supervision and support to all Aquatics staff, and participants. They are fiscally responsible for all aquatic budgets and reports. This position works with internal campus community and external facility rentals assisting with space utilization both inside and outside of the Ocasek Natatorium and Student Recreation and Wellness Center. They assist in the management of all recreation facilities and oversee the department certification programs. This individual will assist with equipment purchasing and inventory for all related equipment. Position will work on a rotating schedule to best serve the needs of the department. Additional responsibilities:
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate approximately 70 student staff for the following positions: Head Lifeguard, Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Colorado Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor.
Manage daily operations for ONAT competition pool, SRWC Leisure Pool and Spa, and ONAT front desk operation; to include scheduling staff to maintain appropriate supervision required per state code.
Develop and implement all in-service training and materials to include the latest industry best practices.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for all operational areas including risk management, policy and procedure manuals, conduct, facility counts, and daily facility operations.
Maintain current certifications for all aquatic staff, including American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid) and any additional certifications deemed necessary.
Coordinate special event set-up, oversee staff during events, and serve as a meet management liaison for swim meets. Understand and operate all swim meet equipment.
Schedule facilities working with coaches and administrators to schedule the following; The University of Akron Women's Swimming & Diving team practices and events, Sport Science and Wellness Education classes, High School Swimming & Diving practices and events, USA Club swimming and diving practices and events, YMCA swim team practices and events & SRWS programs.
Manage the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program including student staffing; program development, implementation, evaluation and assessment of instructors and program material; patron interaction, communication and development of all swim lessons.
Assist in development, implementation and assessment of aquatic programs as well as developing and maintaining long range and short term financial goals and plans.
Develop program yearly budget, tracking and reporting, compiling revenue information on a per-session, semester, and fiscal year basis. Monitor expenditures and payroll to meet budget goals.
Maintain inventory and recommend purchases for supplies within the Aquatics program, including but not limited to: uniforms, lifeguard and swim lesson equipment, program/facility specific needs, and first aid supplies for the department.
Oversee ONAT front desk operations to include guest pass sales, pro-shop sales and related fiscal policies and procedures including cash handling and reconciling.
Assist in operation of SRWS informal recreation program to include daily operation of SRWS facilities, policy and procedure management, risk management policy and procedure, and special event management.
Foster a strong and positive learning culture for students and help them to increase enthusiasm and understanding of the learning process.
Assess and report on all aspects and functions of position and support standards and learning outcomes while providing excellent customer service and assist in resolving patron issues.
Represent the department and division for university initiatives and university wide committees.
Work with the department of Student Recreation & Wellness Services to support its mission of providing high quality programming, engaging and developing students in a manner that enhances their ability to be successful, adding to the campus experience and representing the University of Akron to the highest standards.

A Bachelor degree in Sports Management, Recreation or related field.
Minimum 2 years' experience in aquatic management in a collegiate environment.
Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power point), CSI (Spectrum Management System) or similar facility/membership management software experience.
Supervisory experience of students.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work a non-traditional work week (i.e. before 8am & after 6pm plus weekend hours).

American Red Cross Certified as: Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire), Water Safety Instructor.
