The Aquatic Intern will assist the Aquatic Director in the administration and management of all operational and programming aspects of a comprehensive aquatic program. Some of the responsibilities will include supervising, training, scheduling and evaluating student staff, leadership development, risk management, facility and event management, administrative support, maintenance of records, and communication/collaboration with student, university, and community organizations and individuals. Evening and weekend hours will be required.
Develop, promote, implement and maintain current aquatic programs
Recruit, hire, train and evaluate lifeguards and swim instructors
Conduct in-service trainings for swim instructors no less than 4 times during the year
Administer a comprehensive swim lesson program
Maintain a database of aquatic programs’ participants
Maintain an open line of communication with program participants
Assess programs and adjust as needed for the success of aquatic programs
Assist Aquatic Director in preparing and managing the aquatics budget
Participate on committees within the Campus Recreation Department
Assist Aquatic Director in creating, promoting, and managing new aquatics/safety based programming
Assist with risk management initiatives and the implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
Must have relevant aquatic teaching/management experience
Current WSI swim lesson certification preferred, or a minimum of 2 years aquatics teaching experience acceptable
Capable of teaching all instructional swim levels offered
Current Lifeguarding/FA/CPR/AED certifications preferred
Exceptional organizational and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Four year degree preferred
Additional Salary Information: Salary is allocated as a stipend with a payment of $1,550/month. The contract is 11 months, preferably September 1, 2017 through July 31, 2018.
