Manage a comprehensive Aquatics program for the Department of Recreational Sports Programs (RSP), which includes oversight of the IMA pool, Pavilion Pool, First Aid Office, aquatics classes and special events. Develop and implement policies and procedures for all program operations in accordance with department and university rules. Recruit, hire, train, schedule and supervise approximately 40 temporary staff. Plan and allocate budgeted resources.

•Recruit, hire, train and supervise the Aquatics instructional and lifeguard temporary employee staff of approximately 40.
•Plan, develop and implement training programs. Ensure employees have proper up to date training certifications for lifeguarding and first aid administration.
•Process semimonthly payroll in accordance with department and University policy and procedures.
•Manage employees and schedules to meet University student and temporary employee requirements.
•Maintain oversight of a comprehensive Aquatics and Safety programs in accordance with Swimming Pool Operations Manuals, First Aid Operations Manual, industry standards and department policies to ensure compliance.
•Plan and implement the Aquatics program including: scheduling, marketing and promotion, registration, facility reservation, policy enforcement, equipment and program evaluation, assessment, quarterly and annual reporting, program development, student development, and interdepartmental networking.
•Develop and implement trainings and meetings with the temporary staff on major policy and procedure topics of concern, including: equipment needs, risk management and emergency response, scheduling, and class structure.
•Plan, develop, implement, and co-lead the First Aid/CPR/AED and Lifeguard Training programs.
•Establish and implement the Aquatics program policies and procedures, Swimming Pool Operations Manuals and First Aid Operations Manual, reviewing annually to update for program and process improvement.
•Evaluate new program requests to determine their viability and compatibility with the department before adding them as new class offerings or activities.
•Establish and implement Aquatics and emergency response specific risk management practices, policies, and procedures.
•Establish and monitor metrics in alignment with University and departmental strategic goals to inform Aquatics and Safety program decisions. Compile quarterly and annual statistical program data for department reports. Perform an annual audit of the programs to evaluate and analyze program outcomes.
•Serve as the department’s resource on Aquatics programming related questions.
•Host Aquatics workshops and teach Aquatics classes as needed.
•Manage the IMA Pool and Pavilion Pool facilities to accommodate lap swimming, open recreation, scheduled classes and activities, and special events. Enforce pool safety rules and ensure sanitary conditions in and around the pools.
•Maintain the Aquatics and Safety classes quarterly schedule for on-going classes, drop-in classes, and certifications/trainings.
•Provide on-site event coordination for all Aquatics special events.
•Monitor and arrange the use of Aquatics and Safety equipment throughout the year. Maintain and inspect the departments AED’s.
•Supervise the operations activities at all of the department facilities and fields as needed. Work cooperatively with other members of the department staff in the interest of providing a comprehensive program designed to the meet the needs of the University community.
•Establish and maintain professional relationships with other UW departments, local pool facilities, and industry associations.
•Prepare an annual budget for the Aquatics and Safety programs. Project expenditures in staffing, equipment and contract services.
•Manage the Aquatics and Safety budgets and maintain internal control of all expenditures and ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance.
•Evaluate Aquatics and First Aid equipment needs and make purchases.
•Approve Aquatics and First Aid certification needs and handle reimbursements.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or equivalent, and two years’ experience in Physical Education or Recreation.
•Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, certified American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, and certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. Must obtain Certified Pool Operators certification within six months of employment.
•Demonstrated experience in managing a Pool, Aquatics and First Aid Services program and knowledge of aquatics programming.
•Demonstrated experience in training instructional and aquatics staff.
•Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
•Experience in developing and implementing revenue-generating programs.
•Current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, Lifeguarding, and Water Safety.
•Knowledge of computer programs (PC) and applications.
•Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Trainer certification.
•Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification.
•Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification.
•Knowledge of scheduling and/or recreation management software (ex. Fusion).
•Experience with Aquatic Facility planning, renovations and/or construction.
