GENERAL DESCRIPTION:This is a professional position responsible for administering a comprehensive aquatics and safety program including: creating and implementing programs; hiring, training and supervising student employees; serving as a liaison to other departments regarding safety. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This is a security-sensitive position. Reports to the Director of Campus Recreation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates graduate and undergraduate student employees.
2.Creates and manages aquatics programming for the department, including: learn to swim classes, special events, and pool and courtyard events.
3.Creates and manages safety programming for the department, including: red shirt drills, safety newsletter and safety quizzes.
4.Markets and coordinates with groups to use the Campus Recreation pool and courtyard facilities.
5.Coordinates with departmental staff on operational management and schedule of the pool and courtyard facilities.
6.Coordinates CPR, First Aid, AED and Blood Borne Pathogens classes for the department.
7.Coordinates a comprehensive emergency action plan for all departmental programs.
8.Collaborates with staff to ensure safety training is provided during all departmental and area specific trainings, as needed.
9.Administers aquatics and safety budgets, purchases, equipment and revenue.
10.Serves as liaison with other campus departments, external vendors and the community.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1.Serves on departmental and university committees.
2.Coordinates and/or assists with special events and activities as necessary.
3.Works outside normal office hours and weekends, as required.
4.Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. 1.Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.

11.Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications within three months of employment.
12.Ability to obtain Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within three months of employment.
13.Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
14.Physical ability to teach and participate in programs.
EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree in sport and recreation management or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:One year of related experience is required. Experience in aquatic programming in a collegiate setting; risk management and safety programming; and/or training and managing staff members is preferred. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within three months of employment. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is required within three months of employment. Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification is required within three months of employment. CPO or AFO instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), and Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT) certifications are preferred.
