Columbus State University has an opening for a Recreation Coordinator for Aquatic and Adventure Programs. This position will report to the Assistant Director for Campus Recreation and will provide opportunities to the campus community for water activities and adventure recreation. This position oversees all aspects of the Recreation Center’s Aquatics and Rock Wall areas and will develop and coordinate recreational activities specifically targeted to, and located, at the RiverPark Campus.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: developing aquatics programs, such as, free swim, water aerobics, water volleyball and basketball, diving contests, swim lessons, lifeguard training, scuba certification, dive-in movies, and special group activities with Greek Life and other organizations; developing adventure programs, such as, whitewater trips and other outdoor water sports, hiking, camping, spelunking, rock climbing, biking, high ropes and adventure courses, recreational snow skiing, trips, and Geocaching; supervising Aquatic and Rock Wall program activities to meet Campus Recreation objectives; ensuring program quality by monitoring staff performance and member services; facilitating safety practices by ensuring policies and procedures are properly posted; maintaining risk management plans, assessments, and regular staff reviews for all areas of responsibility; ensuring all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained by regular inspection and in coordination with the Health Inspector; coordinating with Plant Operations and vendors (such as Janco360 and Treadstone) as necessary to complete routine repairs, inspections, and adjustments to equipment in the Aquatics and Rock Wall areas; hiring, supervising, and training all staff in the aquatics and rock wall areas, to include, creating schedules and facilitating evaluations each semester; serving as the primary instructor for certifications of all staff within the Aquatics and Rock Wall programs, which includes serving as an on-site lifeguard, water safety instructor, and aquatics instructor; supervising pool areas and ensuring the lifeguard staff is monitoring patrons and exhibiting professional behavior at all times, to include, creating an environment that is distraction free; ensuring records and certifications for Lifeguards and Rock Wall staff are up-to-date and complete; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of, and participation in the Aquatics, Rock Wall, and Adventure Programs by maintaining pool logs and updates, rock wall waivers, belay logs, incident reports, participation headcounts, and by obtaining regular feedback from participants on all programs; and all other related duties as assigned.
The salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; experience as a lifeguard with preference given to individuals who have supervised lifeguards; must have current American Red Cross CPR, AED, and First-Aid, and Lifeguard Certification; possess a Lifeguard Instructor certificate or demonstrate the ability to obtain this certificate within 45 days of the time upon employment; possess a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate or demonstrate the ability to obtain this certificate within 90 days of the time upon employment; and possess a Swim Instructor Trainer certificate or demonstrate the ability to obtain this certificate within 90 days of the time upon employment.
