Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Fitness Equipment Maintenance Technician performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and basic skilled generalist work related to fitness equipment. The incumbent has basic knowledge of theories, codes, and general trade practices in applicable areas. The Fitness Equipment Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance and repairs of the fitness, cardiovascular and select motorized equipment in the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Under general supervision, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains all fitness equipment including spin bikes, tread mills, ellipticals, selectorize weight equipment, free weights and other fitness equipment as directed to ensure the safety of all equipment users.
Maintains a daily, weekly, monthly, semester, and/or annual preventive maintenance schedule for all fitness, cardiovascular and select motorized equipment according to the manufactures recommended service schedules and warranties. Assists with the moving and organizing of fitness equipment.
Maintains repair/maintenance documentation for all fitness, cardiovascular and select motorized equipment inventory in order to create a clear performance history of all equipment.
Maintains a daily, weekly, monthly, semester, and/or annual cleaning schedule for all fitness, cardiovascular and select motorized equipment using LEED-approved cleaning chemicals and tools according to the manufactures recommended services schedules and warranties.
Inspects equipment on a daily basis for safety issues and immediately takes equipment out of service and informs supervisor if any issues are found.
Assists with repairs to plumbing fixtures: flush valves, faucets; removes and re-installs plumbing fixtures and hardware.
Assists with repairs to wall and masonry surfaces; patches, caulks, primes and paints a variety of surfaces as instructed.
Assists with the repairs of furnishings, window blinds; hang pictures, artwork, and awards.
Assists with the general maintenance of the swimming pool, deck area and other related equipment.
Inspects, tests, repairs, or replaces or performs routine maintenance on building lighting systems, ASI owned vehicles, and the emergency and portable generator.
Assists with general repairs and routine maintenance as assigned by supervisor and reports special problems and conditions to the supervisor for needs assessment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent; and two to four years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of common methods and practices used in equipment maintenance, servicing and repair:
knowledge of hand tools used in electrical and mechanical repair; familiarity with the characteristics, terms and operation of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Ability to learn simple repair and servicing of equipment. Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position: mechanical aptitude: ability to do simple arithmetic computation, ability to follow written and oral directions; general knowledge of hand tools and their common uses in equipment repair: manual dexterity for handling equipment parts.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have a valid California driver’s license.
