Responsible for creating and implementing training programs and overseeing the development of UREC's student employees. This position actively searches, creatively designs and implements effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance.
50%: Training and Development
Chair the Student Development Committee and plan Kick-Off (the full staff orientation), ULead (leadership development program) and the development banquet among other activities; Coordinate new hire orientation; Coordinate risk management and emergency response training; Coordinate CPR training; Coordinate customer service and departmental overview/information training; Train and coach professional staff and others involved in student development efforts to ensure continuity of training styles; Develop and maintain organizational communication such as bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training and development events and resources; Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results; Develop multimedia visual aids and presentations; Create brochures and training materials; Propose training and development programs and objectives; Maintain the employee manual; Oversee the performance management plan.
Develop and monitor spending against the area budget which includes development funding for student travel; Track and report student employee retention data; Be a conduit between all student development committees (Risk Management Committee, Student Development Committee and Supervisor Task Force); Advise UREC's leadership on HR policies and procedures.
15%: Program and Professional Involvement
Provide feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and operations by conducting daily observations/engaging in programs and using equipment/facilities; Immediately report safety concerns to the functional area supervisor; Be active professionally through research, publications, presentations, speaking engagements, and involvement in professional associations; Represent University Recreation for various University/community functions, committee work, and other duties as assigned; Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the department’s culture of teamwork; Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success; Maintains positive co-worker relationships and fosters an environment of trust and inclusion; Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as determined by department & function need.
A Bachelor's degree in Educational Leadership, Sport/Recreation, Talent Management, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field and at least 3 years of experience with proficient knowledge and experience in relevant computer skills (Microsoft Office and database programs).
A Master's degree with 5 years of experience working in student development in a sport/recreation environment. Possession of a professional certification including by not limited to SHRM - Certified Professional or SHRM - Senior Certified Professional.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
The ability to work flexible hours (some nights and weekends).
