Under supervision of the Asst Director of Facilities, this position is primarily responsible for the overall general care, maintenance and repair of all the department's strength and cardiovascular equipment, and establishing and following preventive maintenance schedules for recreation and fitness equipment.
On occasion, the incumbent may also perform general building maintenance and repair services that includes but are not limited to items such as: plumbing, mechanical equipment, carpentry, painting, door and wall repairs for Sports Facilities, and/or additional campus fitness centers as needed.
Provide customer service professionally and efficiently. The incumbent will be assigned to cover various department facilities, performing maintenance and repair work. Work may be assigned by direct supervisor and/or work director.
Additionally, direct and lead teams and work groups in fitness equipment and building maintenance projects. Supervise and plan work schedules and routines; direct timely repairs and maintenance of equipment and tools. Act as resource and work leader for student workers. Act as a supervisor for student workers in performance of general maintenance duties.
Normal work hours will be Mon - Fri, 7:00am - 3:30pm, but must be able to work a variable schedule to accommodate department needs.
Proven knowledge and experience repairing and maintaining fitness equipment, and related bearings, cams, cables and belts, electrical components, air compressors, associated equipment and air pressure plumbing lines.
Equipment includes items such as selectorized weight machines, elliptical machines, Stairmasters, fitness bicycles, climbers, rowing machines, treadmills, free weights, Keiser/pneumatic air pressure technology equipment.
Proven experience and ability working with electrical components and power sources for fitness equipment. Experience and ability to perform preventive maintenance of the above equipment.
Demonstrated experience replacing, cutting and sewing upholstery, and replacing cushion foam.
Demonstrated carpentry experience and skills for the repair and replacement of platforms and spacing needs of specialized fitness equipment.
Proven ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, such as skill saws, impact wrenches, hand and power sanders, amp meters, power washers, steam & carpet cleaners, 2-cycle motors, drills, power lifts, etc.
Substantial demonstrated experience in a broad range of unskilled and semi-skilled trades, performing repairs, cleaning and preventive maintenance.
Ability to delegate work in an orderly and systematic way while supervising student assistants and casual employees.
Demonstrated knowledge of general industry safety standards, practices, and procedures. Knowledge and skill in the safe use of chemicals and solvents used in maintenance.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to write clear and complete work reports and logs.
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision while providing a consistent high level of service. Ability to work as a team member, integrating functions and tasks with other facility staff members.
