Supervise, mentor, and provide professional development to the Fitness & Wellness leadership team; Oversee the hiring, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation process for Fitness & Wellness Personal Trainers; Administer and implement monthly in-service trainings for employees; Recommend personnel for advancement, raises, rehire, and/or dismissal; Monitor and submit all payroll reports.
25% Program Supervision:
Oversee the planning and administration of group exercise programming, fitness certification workshops, instructional programming, personal training, and fitness floor management; Develop and implement accurate written records (program manuals, policies/procedures, etc.); Develop learning outcomes and conduct annual assessments; Build working relationships and collaborative programs with campus departments to foster involvement in university programs; Oversee UREC employee wellness programming to include: nutrition, exercise, and healthy life choices.
25% Fiscal Management and Asset Management:
Prepare and submit monthly and annual statistical reports; develop annual operating budget; Determine and recommend purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for program operations; develop appropriate inventory controls; Coordinate, establish, and recommend for approval all fees pertaining to program participation; Monitor and maintain a sound fiscal operational budget; Research grant opportunities for the implementation of faculty and staff wellness programs.
20% Program and Professional Development:
Provide feedback regarding departmental programs, equipment, and operations by conducting daily observations/engaging in programs and using equipment/facilities; Immediately report safety concerns to the functional area supervisor; Be active professionally through research, publications, presentations, speaking engagements, and involvement in professional associations; Represent University Recreation for various University/community functions, committee work, and other duties as assigned; Contribute positively to the work environment by participating in honest dialog that is indicative of the department’s culture of teamwork; Willingly shares all information with department teammates in an effort to provide high quality outcomes that contribute to student success; Maintains positive co-worker relationships and fosters an environment of trust and inclusion; Provide staff coverage during evenings, weekends, and special events as determined by department & function need.
Bachelor's degree in Health Promotion/Education, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field and at least 5 years of experience in health education activities, programs and services along with experience planning, evaluating, and delivering healthcare and wellness information.
Master's degree in Health Promotion/Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field plus 7 years of experience in fitness and wellness programming in a collegiate or corporate setting.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Ability to work flexible hours; some evenings and weekends.
Group Exercise Certification - Nationally Accredited Certification (ACE or ACSM preferred)
Personal Training Certification - Nationally Accredited Certification (ACE or ACSM preferred)
