The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for the Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) Assistant Facility Manager position, a full-time, twelve-month Operational and Administrative University Staff position with full benefits. The AFC, approximately 152,000 sf facility, features a 3-court gymnasium; indoor track; cardiovascular and strength training areas; 4 multi-purpose rooms; cycle room; 50-meter x 25-yard Olympic-size pool, warm water leisure pool, hot tub and sauna; classrooms; locker rooms; and support spaces.
The Assistant Facility Manager will assist the Facility Manager in the management, supervision, and daily operations of the AFC while servicing the recreational/fitness needs of the University community. Key responsibilities include organizing the recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, payroll, and supervision of a highly trained facility operations student employee attendant staff to ensure that student and member expectations and quality service are met in a physical environment of proactive risk management. Additional responsibilities include assisting with event management, building operations, facility cleanliness, routine facility maintenance, facility improvement projects, and support of departmental programming components. The Assistant Facility Manager will also coordinate preparing the AFC for IM-Rec Sports programs, reservations, and special events such as graduation, Reunions Weekends, Fan Fest and many more. Additionally, the Assistant Facility Manager will support the Aquatics Management team responsible for natatorium supervision and maintenance as well as hosting NCAA Varsity Swim/Dive Team practices and competitions. To exemplify service excellence and support student employee development, the Assistant Facility Manager will also serve as a front line supervisor typically replacing student supervisors a minimum of 15 hours per week. Base work schedule is 7am-4pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 9am-6pm Wednesday. As driven by member and facility demands, work hours will also vary to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, Physical Education, Athletic or Public Administration, Student Affairs or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience: Requires experience in collegiate or community recreation facility supervision and operations as well as professional experience supervising student and/or part-time employees.
Certification: First aid and CPR/AED certification required or completed within 90 days of hiring and maintained throughout employment.
