Florida State University is seeking a dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individual for the position of Coordinator for FSU Challenge and Camp Flastacowo. FSU Challenge is a team building program consisting of low and high challenge course elements. Our brand new high course has twelve team oriented activities for up to eight people to participate in together and two thrilling exit activities. Camp Flastacowo is Campus Recreation’s own ACA-Accredited day camp which provides programming for campers aged 8-16. It's housed at the FSU Reservation on beautiful Lake Bradford. Activities include sailing, team-building, canoeing, kayaking, arts & crafts, swimming, outdoor education and more!
The successful candidate will provide shared leadership for a comprehensive university-wide recreational program designed for more than 50,000+ students and faculty, and will assist with cultivating and delivering the departmental brand to the entire community. The successful candidate will promote and cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. Assist with daily supervision of the Challenge Course program, which includes daily oversight, training, scheduling, supervision and development of staff. Assists with coordinating challenge course programs via customer intake profile. Assists with the development of learning outcomes for challenge program and assesses and evaluates for future program enhancements.
Provide overall coordination and supervision of Camp Flastacowo program to include program development, policies and procedure development, inventory, budget management, and risk management. Plans, schedules and supervised camp programs and activities based on American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation standards, which includes offsite day trips. Develops learning outcomes for programming and assesses for current success and future program enhancements.
Develop and coordinate marketing for Camp and Challenge Course programs in coordination with Campus Recreation marketing team, including specific targets outside of the FSU community. Assists in the development of assessment instruments used for program enhancements as well as learning outcomes for all Camp and Challenge Course program participants.
Over-sees the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of camp staff. Assist with staff hiring, training, and supervision of Challenge staff members. Assists the Adventure Program Assistant Director with development of Challenge and Camp staff based on current industry standards and research.
Develops and administers the annual budget for Camp Flastacowo. Monitors financial revenue, expense data and OPS wages. Responsible for inventory control, purchasing, ordering and receiving of equipment and supplies. Develops financial goal setting to optimize and generate revenue Camp Flastacowo. Assists with the development and administration of the Challenge budget.
Assists in other departmental activities and serves on various University, divisional, and departmental committees. Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation/Leisure Administration or related field and 2 years of experience.
Ability to become certified in CPR/First Aid/AED through American Red Cross within the first 6 months of hire.
Master's degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation/Leisure Administration or related field.

The department has approximately 20 full-time professionals on staff along with hiring over 700 student workers annually.
The department operates seven recreational facilities including the Dr. Bobby E. Leach Student Recreation Center, Main Campus Fields, Tully Gymnasium, and Speicher Tennis Center. In the past 10 years, the department has opened and completed an expansion of its 108-acre Rec SportsPlex outdoor sports facility, a 2010 NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facilities award winner; constructed an outdoor courts facility, the Westside Courts; and opened its Fitness & Movement Clinic, a satellite fitness facility in conjunction with the University's Health and Wellness Center.
