POSITION TITLE: Assistant Director of Facilities and Special Events
DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Wellness
DIVISION: Division of Student Affairs
Reports to Associate Director, Recreation and Wellness
SUMMARY: The Department of Recreation and Wellness is a broad program located in the Division of Student Affairs, which includes comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including: aquatics, informal recreation, fitness, outdoor adventures, experiential education, competitive sports, nutrition, health promotion/advocacy and wellness education. The Mission of the Department of Recreation and Wellness is to provide a variety of programs, services and activities, which strive to engage students and others in the UNC Greensboro community in the attainment of healthy lifestyle behaviors that will carry forward throughout their lifespan.
This position has oversight on the following facilities: Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness, Recreation Courts (outdoor basketball/sand volleyball) and Irwin Belk Track, Tennis Courts, Recreation Field and Golf Greens. This position is responsible for the effective leadership and daily operations of the facility and aquatic staff. This person will have direct supervision of at least one professional staff, multiple graduate assistants and student employees, as well as indirect supervision/leadership of the aquatic staff and program area. This position provides student development that reinforce and enhance classroom and academic learning through the application of related theories and employee related skills. This individual is responsible assisting with development of a comprehensive training program including topics such as customer service, conflict resolution, communication, goal setting, decision making and leadership development based on identified learning outcomes and associated assessments.
GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Work collaboratively with and supervise a full-time coordinator. 2. Coordinate hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, and supervision of graduate assistant(s) and 45+ undergraduate student employees. 3. Develop, implement, and assess policies and procedures for facilities and special event program areas. 4. Develop and maintain facility and special event program budget. 5. Design and implement assessment of student learning in facilities and aquatic programs.
FACILITY & EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Oversee the day to day operations of Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness. 2. Work with Associate Director to schedule and facilitate all facility maintenance and housekeeping projects. 3. Develop and maintain process and communication for all aspects of special events in facilities managed by the Department of Recreation and Wellness, which includes both UNCG reservations as well as external group reservations. 4. Keep accurate inventory and care for facility as well as special event equipment. 5. Educate, manage, and test student staff on the departmental Emergency Action Plan. 6. Provide tours of the Kaplan Center as needed.
FACILITY/MEMBER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinates all member service functions including locker rentals and clean out, towel service, laundry, lost and found, facility access, guest passes, equipment check out, retail sales, etc. 2. Manages member management/point of sale software; including inventory and reporting.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serve on departmental and university committees. 2. Instruct department offered American Red Cross/AED/First Aid courses. 3. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s degree 2. A minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in recreation management and developing student employees (two years as a graduate assistant in collegiate recreation will count for two years) 3. Certifications to include American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s degree in Higher Education, Recreation Management, or related field. 2. Experience in the supervision of facilities, including reservation process and facilitation of special events. 3. Certified Pool Operators license (or equivalent). 4. Experience supervising professional staff or a graduate assistant. 5. Experience with reservation or recreational software such as Fusion, CSI, EMS, etc.
