The Department of Sports and Recreation at Kennesaw State University is currently accepting applications for Graduate Assistant positions in the following areas: Facilities and Intramural Sports. Graduate Assistants are expected to work 20 hours per week and remain in good academic standing throughout the course of their appointment. Priority review deadline for applications will be February 9 at 5:00pm. Final deadline for applications will be March 16 at 5:00pm.
The Facilities Graduate Assistant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day event operations for the Student Recreation and Activities Center (SRAC) and Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC). This will include facility reservations, operating supplies, payroll and management of student staff. The Facilities Graduate Assistant is expected to assist with special events held within the SRAC and RWC. This position requires a flexible schedule including non-traditional work hours and other duties as assigned.
Reports to and works collaboratively with the Senior Coordinator of Facilities & Events
Provides leadership in the areas of program/services, registrations, facility reservations, customer service and event management
Recruit, hire, train, manage, and evaluate facility student staff
Responsible for the set-up and execution of all meetings and special events that take place in the SRAC and RWC
Coordinate walk-throughs with event organizers to determine event needs, scope, and event specifics
Responsible for processing, scheduling and confirming facility reservations annually and placing confirmed events into the Event Management System (university/departmental facility scheduling system)
Assist in the creation and monitoring of the Sports & Recreation Event Management program budget in the areas of student wages, operating supplies such as: event management supplies, revenue, etc.
Prepare a monthly report highlighting updates, areas that need improvement, personnel training, development and other statistical information
Debrief and document large scale events with user groups for the SRAC and RWC
A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, or other related field; strong communication and customer service skills; ability to collaboratively work with students, faculty, staff, and the community. Must be accepted into a recognized graduate program at Kennesaw State University. Offers for this position are contingent upon this acceptance.
Two years’ collegiate recreation experience; motivated, enthusiastic, and attentive to detail; ability to work with a diverse group; career aspirations in recreational sports; CPR/First Aid certification; experience utilizing Fusion and/or other recreation management software
Stipend and Waiver
This program carries a full tuition waiver (in-state or out-of-state), as well as a $14,000 annual stipend. This waiver is contingent upon acceptance into a Graduate School program and the waiver picked up by the Graduate College. This appointment will begin August of 2018 and conclude in May of 2020. The position is expected to work 20 hours per week. Student fees, school application fees, and some other expenses will need to be covered by the individual filling this position.

This position will be responsible for the following items:
Report to the Senior Coordinator of Intramural Sports within the Department of Sports and Recreation
Administer the guidelines, policies, and procedures as outlined by Kennesaw State University, the Department of Sports and Recreation, and Intramural Sports
Assist in the planning, development, and organization of the Intramural Sports program
Develop, schedule, conduct, and lead official’s training sessions
Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate student employees
Assist in overseeing Intramural Sports program during activities through participant relations, game management, risk management, and personnel supervision
Administer basic first aid and emergency procedures as prescribed
Assist in promoting the Intramural Sports program to the campus community
Plan, organize, schedule, and administrate sports leagues and games
Assist in planning, organizing, and administration of summer camp
Assist with the administration of student employee payroll
Conduct equipment inventory to keep accurate records
Other duties as assigned
Education – Bachelor’s degree required. GRE minimum score of combined 290 or higher on verbal and quantitative categories. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Must be accepted into a recognized graduate program at Kennesaw State University. Offers for this position are contingent upon this acceptance.
Experience – Applicant should have previous experience working with a sports program, with preference toward applicants who have worked as a program assistant/supervisor for an Intramural Sports program.
Skills – Must be able to efficiently use Microsoft Office and Adobe products, highly efficient time management skills, strong presentation and planning skills, and the ability to function well as a team member.
