UNG Recreational Sports provides programming on the Dahlonega, Cumming, Gainesville, and Oconee Campuses. We strive to serve a variety of student needs at each campus.

Positions include a full tuition waiver with stipend and are based on a 2 year, 12 month commitment. Stipend is $11,000/yr and is paid on an hourly wage basis. Students are responsible for all textbooks and fees associated with their respective graduate programs.
The position of Graduate Assistant, Fitness for the Department of Recreational Sports is under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, Facilities on the Dahlonega campus. The Graduate Assistant plans, organizes, and administers fitness programs including, but not limited to group exercise classes, personal training, and fitness and wellness related events.
The Grad Assistant will:
Supervise group exercise instructors and personal trainers to include hiring, training, scheduling and evaluation.
Supervise and coordinate the UNG Recreational Sports personal training program. This includes marketing the program, scheduling assessments and sessions for clients and trainers, managing payments.
Create, manage, and assess a comprehensive schedule of fitness and wellness programs to include the implementation of semester long group exercise schedules and special fitness/wellness events.
Be responsible for providing excellent customer service experiences to all patrons by aiding in staff trainings and managing the front office desk for professional staff and the department.
Seek out partnerships within the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to promote fitness and wellness initiatives and programs.
Be responsible for management of fitness equipment and recommendations for equipment to replace or to purchase.
Assist the Coordinator, Facilities with supervision of the UNG Rec Center and facilities staff.
Knowledge of operations of a recreational sports department
Experience working within a student recreation center and managing students
Experience teaching and coordinating a group exercise schedule
Demonstrated ability to multi-task; select, train, and supervise student employees
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Undergraduate experience in campus recreation
CPR & First Aid preferred; ACE,AFAA/NASM, and/or ACSM personal training and/or group exercise certification preferred; Experience working with small group trainings preferred.

Intramural Sports & Sport Clubs
The position of the Graduate Assistant of Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs - Oconee is under the direct supervision of the Coordinator, Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs - Gainesville and under the guidance of the Director of Student Involvement - Oconee. The major responsibility of this position is coordinating the Intramural Sports Program on the Oconee campus, including organization, management, promotion, and possible expansion of the program. Other Intramural responsibilities include hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student officials and student workers; coordinating the league registration process through imleagues; collaborating and communicating with the Oconee County Parks and Rec Department; as well as any other duties as assigned. This position also works closely with the Office of Student Involvement to assist in programs and promotion of key events on the Oconee Campus throughout the year. This position will also be responsible for the upkeep of Oconee’s video gaming systems and their respective catalog of games. Lastly, there will be part time responsibilities related to the supervision of Intramural and Student Involvement events in the Student Wellness Center on campus.
The Graduate Assistant will:
Coordinate the Intramural Sports and Sport Club Program, including organization, administration, and promotion
Facilitate the hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating of student officials and student workers
Assist with Student Involvement programs and promotions (fall carnival, game day, weeks of welcome, etc.)
Assist with other Rec Sports programs, such as fitness, outdoor pursuits, and All-Campus Tournaments
Supervise and attend all intramural and student involvement events as required, as well as attend student involvement meetings
Participate with divisional projects such as orientation and open house
Oversee the active participation of sanctioned conduct volunteers at recreational and student involvement programs or events.
Assist in providing supervision for the Bishop Student Wellness Hall and management of video gaming systems and games.
Experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Club organization and administration
Officiating experience and knowledge of sports rules
Strong communication and leadership skills
Motivation, Enthusiasm and attention to detail
Undergraduate experience in Intramural Sports and /or Sport Clubs
CPR & First Aid preferred
