AQUATICS: The Aquatics Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) reports directly to the Coordinator of Aquatics and Safety. The Aquatics GTA is responsible for implementing policies and procedures, which contribute to the direct supervision, operation and advancement of the Aquatic Programs. Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, the Aquatics GA serves as a leader to Lifeguards, Red Cross Instructors, Learn-to-Swim Instructors, The GA will oversee daily operations of Aquatic Programs, Pools, The GA will assess the program and provide staff support while participating as an active team member to OSU Campus Recreation Staff. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with the overall management and supervision of Aquatic Programs; Maintain daily office hours and scheduled supervision/assessment hours; Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of Aquatics; Assist in the development of student staff through staff training, goal setting, and evaluations; Plan and implement aquatic programs, services and special events; Assist in the scheduling of facilities for all Aquatics programing using Spectrum; Plan and instruct American Red Cross courses; CPR/AED and First Aid, WSI, and LGI; Evaluate and monitor the risk management plan for Aquatic Programs; Oversee the inventory, repair, maintenance, and replacement plan of all aquatics equipment; Oversee inventory of aquatics equipment/ first aid equipment; Assist in the development and production of internal documentation, manuals, and trainings; Assist with the Aquatics,student payroll; Assist in the development and implementation of program assessment and strategic planning; Assist with the marketing and information of the Aquatic Programs; Attend aquatic events and serve as a positive role model and resource for staff and participants; Work cooperatively with other Campus Recreation programs and staff members assisting with departmental; Special events as needed; Attend staff meetings and serve on university committees when requested; Fulfill additional departmental duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: 1+ years’ experience in aquatics supervision and programming; Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management or related field; Enrollment in Oklahoma State University Graduate Studies Program; Must have a 3.0 GPA; American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Water Safety Instructor certifications; American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification (obtained within first 6 months) Preferred Work Experience and Requirements: American Red Cross LGIT and WSIT strongly preferred; Experience teaching American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor classes preferred; Knowledge & experience in Campus Recreation activity scheduling, registration, risk management, assessment and supervision; Learn-to-Swim programming and supervision experience strongly preferred; CPO and/or AFO certification (obtained within first 6 months). COMPETITIVE SPORTS: The Competitive Sports Program is looking for a professionally minded individual that will help to administer all aspects of assigned activities within a comprehensive, highly competitive Intramural Sports and Club Sports Program. Specific areas of responsibility include team sports, individual and dual tournaments, meets, special events and oversight of clubs. Duties will include: hiring/training of student employees, publicity and promotion of events, scheduling practices/tournaments, scheduling of employees, rule revisions, discipline hearings, equipment coordination and inventory, and evaluation of activities and staff. Applicants should demonstrate ability to recruit, hire and train student personnel. Must have a strong officiating background in football, basketball, soccer and/or softball. The candidate must have two years of experience officiating and/or supervising intramural or club sport activities and tournaments. Team oriented ideas, willingness to work hard, and a desire to learn is important. Willingness to pursue recreation as a career is a plus. Knowledge and experience with using Microsoft Office and IM Leagues would be beneficial. Intramural sports is the largest student organization on campus and offers over 50 different activities with 80,000 participation's each year. Club sports have 1000 students participating from 35 clubs. FITNESS: The Fitness Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) is primarily responsible for assisting the Assistant Director of Fitness and Fitness Coordinator, with the day to day operations of the OrangeFIT Group Fitness program. As well as, help to facilitate special programs and events throughout the semester, including our various 5Ks, strongman competitions, adventure races and semester long incentive programs. This position will also oversee one undergraduate filled Fitness Program Assistant. The Fitness GTA will also assist in teaching the ACSM Personal Training Certification Course. Certifications: Candidate must hold a current certification in personal training and/or group fitness through a nationally accredited organization (such as PTA Global, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE, AFAA, NETA, Cooper, etc…). OUTDOOR ADVENTURE: The Outdoor Adventure Program is seeking a professionally minded individual to help administer assigned responsibilities within its program. This position will include some weekends and evening hours.Duties include: Assist with the daily operations of the trip program, rental program, indoor climbing wall, and the challenge course; Assist with the leadership of adventure trips and other program events. Trips and events occur on weekdays, weekends, and over university breaks; Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate undergraduate student employees; Assist with the planning of Cowboy Quest for incoming Freshmen during the summer (with the potential opportunity to lead programs in the summer); Assist with risk management planning and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines for all programs and facilities; Maintain equipment inventory for all program areas; Assist with equipment purchase, inventory, maintenance, and inspections; Assist with Outdoor Adventures program budget planning; Assist with program policy development and implementation; Assist with the promotion of trips, events, and climbing facility; Work on special projects and serve on work committees within the Department of Wellness and the Division of Student Affairs; Assist with planning staff trainings, meetings, and other developmental opportunities for student-employees; Coordinate promotional presentations across various units on campus; Serve as a climbing wall supervisor and Trip staff member as necessary; Opportunity to lead extensive backcountry technical training trips with the OA professional staff; Other duties as assigned. OPERATIONS: The Operations Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) is responsible for creating and maintaining the student operation staff semester schedule as well as handling work schedule conflicts and issues. They will also assist with the hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining a student operations staff of approximately seventy-five (75) employees. The GTA is required to approve bi-weekly timecards for the student staff, attend a weekly managers meeting and weekly facility operations meeting, and become certified and teach CPR/AED to student staff. GRADUATE COLLEGE: A Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Leisure or a related field pertaining to the position you are applying for and acceptance into the OSU Graduate College. Acceptance into a Graduate program will vary from program to program. The Leisure Studies program requires the following minimums: a 3.0 GPA from undergraduate degree and a GRE score with preferred minimums of 153-Verbal, 141-Quantitative, and a 3.5 on the composition section. Should one of the above scores be below the stated minimum requirements, the Leisure Studies Program will consider additional supporting materials, such as, letters of references and on-site/phone interviews.
