Primary Purpose or Responsibility:
Under general supervision responsible for providing leadership, independent judgement, management decisions and direction in the following program areas: Competitive Sports Program (Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs) and Pacific Recreation Facilities.
1. Makes independent decisions and provides direct supervision and direction to others in the development and management of a comprehensive Intramural Sports program, including traditional and non-traditional sports, leagues and tournaments.
2. Makes management decisions and responsible for direct supervision, hiring, training and evaluation of one Competitive Sports Graduate Assistant and 30-35 student officials and supervisors.
3. Provides direct supervision and makes independent management decisions in the direction of the day-to-day management of the Sport Club program including 17 Student Sport Club Organizations (350+ members), fiscal management of club funding allocations and tracking all documents and records associated with the program.
4. Plans, develops, teaches and leads officials training clinics and “Learn to Play” sport clinics for participants for all sports offered.
5. Identifies policy and procedure changes for Competitive Sports Program, suggests and implements suggested changes to the program.
6. Through regular visitations, monitors, evaluates and makes recommendations for all competitive sports events and staff during normal competitive sports contest hours (evenings and weekends).
7. Schedules all Competitive Sports contests and ensures facilities are safe for play.
8. Independently develops and leads Sport Club Leadership development program for sport club participants including annual officer training, in season review of policies and procedures and new officer on-boarding program.
9. Exercises independent decision making and provides direct supervision, leadership and direction to the Sport Club Council, a 5 student board responsible for approving Sport Club Policy changes, budget allocations and club discipline matters.
10. Manages multiple budgets, making management decisions, interpreting and ensuring policies and procedures are followed regarding revenues, expenses and reimbursements.
11. Develops action plans and marketing strategies to engage active club member numbers, attract new members and retain existing competitive sports program participants.
12. Coordinates all conduct and reinstatement meetings for the Competitive Sports program, including exercising independent judgement determining outcome of all meetings determining participant and club eligibility and sanctions.
13. Creates and manages a comprehensive calendar of all facility schedules and reservations.
14. Exercises independent judgement managing and coordinates all facility reservations including internal and external group rentals, contracts and invoices.
15. Develops and leads a comprehensive outdoor adventure program (Tiger Escapes) leading students on experiential education day and weekend trips; including making management decisions on destination of trips, size of trips and manages all Risk associated with trips.
16. Prepares participation reports at the conclusion of each activity for use in a year-end report.
17. Represents Pacific Recreation while working with all Student Life and Campus partners of Pacific Recreation to create a dynamic and fully collaborative Recreation program on campus including making independent decisions and recommendations on behalf of Pacific Recreation.
18. Oversees the ongoing evaluation of all related programs, including completing participant evaluations and/or assessments, focus groups, informal discussion and written program surveys. Recommends and implements future modifications based on evaluation feedback.
19. Participates in Division of Student Life events as requested.
20. Preforms other duties as assigned by Director of Recreation and when designated can act in the absence of the Director of Pacific Recreation.
• Bachelor’s Degree in student personnel, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science or related field. • 2 years progressive experience to include intramural sports, sport clubs, facility scheduling, customer service, student development, facility management and/or program development.
• Master’s Degree in student personnel, higher education, sports administration, recreation, exercise science or related field. • Proven ability to lead and supervise staff. • Experience with Intramural Sports programs including league scheduling, IMLeagues or Innosoft FusionIM software and training and developing sports officials. • Experience working with Sport Club Officers and Program Council/Executive Board. • Demonstrated experience in student recreation centers, student activities, student life or student development. • Involvement in professional societies and organizations. • Experience officiating sports at the National Federation of High School’s (NFHS) level. • Knowledge of personnel management and budgeting. • Ability to direct management goals, to facilitate change and create innovative programs. • Interpersonal skills that facilitate collaborative and cooperative environments. • Supervision or leadership of collegiate Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs programs. • Demonstrated progressive responsible facility management experience within campus recreation or equivalent experience in another recreational setting. • Standard CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification (to be obtained within 3 months of employment). • Must consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making abilities. • Strong knowledge of sports official training and program development programs. • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.
