Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sports Club Coordinator in the Division of Student Affairs. Reporting to the assistant director of Competitive Sports within the Recreation Department, the incumbent in this position provides leadership and direction for the Sport Club program on the New Brunswick/Piscataway campus. Act as the advisor/mentor to the officers of 57+ sport clubs. Attend club contests and accompany clubs at national and regional championships as requested by Assistant Director. Periodically attend club practices to insure that safety procedures are being followed
Plan and schedule monthly officer trainings. Recommend topics of discussion to assist in empowering club officers to build their leadership skills, value diversity, identify organizational values and establish risk management
Approve all purchases made by the clubs
Approve practice schedules and competition schedules
Approve all sport club travel insuring sport clubs follow all Recreation travel policies and procedues
Insure that clubs follow all guidelines set for them concerning finances, dues, membership rosters, game contracts, venue contracts
Manage risk management program for all Sport Club; provide risk manament training for officers: and ensure compliance with all departmental risk management requirements
Meet with the officers on a regular basis. Provide individual guidance where necessary
Educate club athletes on Rutgers Hazing, Alcohol/Drug, and Sexual Harrassment policies
Understand the dynamics of community and instill community development within sport clubs through officer training, marketing and special programming designated specifically for Sport Clubs - ie - alumni events and games
Assist all clubs in fundraising
Perform meaningful annual Assessments for the Sport Club Program
Manage student staff
Hire, train and schedule Field Managers
Hire, train and schedule Sport Club office assistants to assist with the day to day sport club operations and to insure paperwork is submitted acturately
Assist in the development and implementation of training programs that provide the student employees with all of the skills and certifications they need to perform their job effectively prior to their first day of work. Develop continuing education experiences to insure quality performance and a positive work experience
Advise and mentor Sport Club Graduate Assistant during the academic year
Assist other areas within the department with summer camp, special events, and leadership development
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in sports management, recreation, student affairs or a related field and at least 2 years experience managing a large sport program for a diverse population. Will have extensive experience in the training and mentoring of college students in leadership roles. Current Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer or its equivalent including a first aid and AED component or ability to obtain certiifcation within 90 days of hire. Must be proficient with a variety of Office, database, spreadsheet and word processing programs. Must be available to work evenings and weekends. Should have a current drivers license and access to a vehicle and be able to pass Defensive Driving within first 60 days of employment.
