University Recreation supports the Division of Student Affairs and Mississippi State University in the total educational development of students by providing unique recreation programs, services, and facilities that support and encourage the development of a healthy lifestyle.
AQUATICS GRADUATE ASSISTANT:
Plan and conduct quality aquatics programs for the university community. Maintain a safe, clean pool and pool area. Provide for the safety of participants and employees of the facility.
Coordinate aquatics programming for the Joe Frank Sanderson Center.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate all aquatics staff. This includes the development of training sessions and in-service training and testing; discipline and counsel as needed.
Maintain records and reports of the day-to-day operations of the pool to include water clarity reports, water chemistry tests, maintenance schedules, repairs, and daily safety inspections.
Inspect and maintain all safety and maintenance equipment. Report major repairs to the Physical Plant; request equipment purchases and repairs through the Business Manager.
Develop, direct, and manage aquatic special events and water safety instruction programs. This includes American Red Cross swimming lessons, lifeguard training, and other courses as appropriate.
Ensure that all facilities offer a safe environment; report any necessary equipment or facility repairs to the Assistant Director or Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Report all injuries; notify emergency services when necessary. Submit appropriate injury report forms.

COMPETITIVE SPORTS GRADUATE ASSISTANT:
Completed two or more years experience as an intramural official.
Participate and/or work with a Collegiate Sport Club.
Experience supervising intramural sports.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Oversee the daily operations of the Competitive Sports Office. This includes assisting with scheduling; updating league standings and forfeit information daily; assisting with sport registration.
Assist in the recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student employees.
Be on-site or on-call as assigned for intramural and sport club events; insure that all fields or courts are adequately staffed to begin play and that all games begin promptly.
Ensure that the RecPlex is open as advertised and adequately staffed for safe and efficient operation. Insure that all facilities offer a safe environment; report any necessary equipment or facility repairs to Competitive Sports Coordinator and Building Maintenance Supervisor.
Advise the Sport Club Alliance. Assist clubs with the development of budgets. Insure clubs operate within university policy. Assist clubs in making reservations for activity space. Serve as the liaison between clubs and the university.
Complete general maintenance on fields for intramural sports and sport clubs.

GROUP FITNESS GRADUATE ASSISTANT:
AFAA or comparable certification preferred and experience teaching a variety formats.
Ensure that the Strength & Aerobic Conditioning Room is open as advertised and adequately staffed for safe and efficient operation.
Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of student fitness trainers and group exercise instructors.
Schedule student fitness trainers and group exercise instructors and classes. Supervise personnel on a daily basis, especially as related to punctuality and productivity. Prepare counseling report as directed.
Assist with development of fitness training manuals.
Develop and supervise equipment maintenance schedule.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Proficiency in written and oral communication, and utilization of computers
Student development and performance management skills
Ability to foster a positive, cooperative work environment
Ability to plan, organize, and implement programs and events
Ability to comply with all policies and regulations of Mississippi State University and to enforce policies that apply to University Recreation programs and services
Complete assigned reports as necessary. Assist with development of area budget.
Assist with University Recreation special events as assigned.
Make suggestions regarding improvements for the program.
Participate in short- and long-range planning for all areas of the department.
Perform other duties as requested by the professional staff.

Additional Salary Information: STIPEND: $12,681 for twelve months. The University will provide a tuition exemption of approximately 70% of assessed tuition and required fees. An exemption of 100% of the nonresident tuition/fee assessment will be provided to those not classified as a resident of Mississippi. Student will be responsible for the remaining balance of assessed tuition and required fees. Funding for professional development available.
