Middle Tennessee State University’s Campus Recreation is excited to announce the opening of our Graduate Assistant of Fitness position. As a Graduate Assistant, the candidate will get to be part of a team that is focused on delivering energetic and engaging fitness based programs to our students and faculty/staff through personal training, group exercise programs, nutrition mentoring, and various other program areas. Responsibilities of the Graduate Assistant of Fitness include:
Implementation of a Group Exercise Instructor Training program
Leadership of and supervision for a group exercise staff of 15-20 students
Assistance in creation of budgetary goals as well as assistance in budget management
Working with the Coordinator of Fitness in the purchase and inventory of group exercise equipment
Assists the Coordinator of Fitness in creation of assessment programs that track student engagement, student learning outcomes, and student satisfaction relative to fitness programs
Works with the Personal Training Manager in developing student personal trainer training development programs
Assists the Coordinator of Fitness in creating and delivering a comprehensive marketing plan for fitness programs
Works collaboratively with Health Promotions in the creation of fitness and wellness programs
Assists in conducting and planning monthly fitness staff meetings
Assists in the creation of the group fitness schedule
Other duties as assigned
Must be fully admitted into the Exercise Science Master’s Program
Must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher
Must enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA
A Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or other closely related field
Experience in teaching and evaluating group fitness programs strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal leadership and communication skills are expected
Certifications in personal training and/or group fitness from NASM, ACE, ACSM, ISSA etc strongly preferred

Additional Salary Information: MTSU Campus Recreation offers a monthly stipend of $812.50 on a 9 month contract as well as a full tuition waiver.
