Under the direction of the Director of Campus Recreation and Fitness, the Assistant Director-Fitness and Wellness is directly responsible for the administration, supervision, and growth of a comprehensive and thriving Fitness and Wellness Program and assigned special events. Duties include but are not limited to: recruit, hire, train, evaluate, oversee, assess and schedule fitness and personal trainer staffs (i.e. supervisors, attendants, personal trainers, and interns); ensure completion and compliance of all fitness and personal trainer staff certifications; teach group exercise class(es) if assigned and be readily available as a substitute if necessary; develop and oversee group fitness instructional workshop programming (for students, members, faculty and staff); program design and supervision of Student Recreation Center Personal Training Program; provide fitness, nutrition and body composition assessments as needed; and assist in student development programs. The candidate will ensure compliance with all TAMUK and TAMUS policies, guidelines, and procedures. The optimal candidate will be eligible for faculty status in the Department of Health and Kinesiology and teach a minimal course load in the area of fitness and wellness.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from regionally accredited university. Two (2) or more years experience in a recreational sports and/or fitness club setting supervising and/or teaching personal training and/or group fitness applications. Demonstrated involvement with implementation and management of group exercise and wellness programs. Current CPR and AED certification. Current certifications from one or more of the following organizations: American Council of Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA), Registered Yoga Teacher.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Fitness, Nutrition, Health Education or related field preferred. Experience in Personal Training and/or administration and Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) desired.
