The following graduate assistantships will be available for the 2017 – 2018 and 2018 – 2019 academic years:
Athletic Training (1 position) – The Athletic Training GA will manage all aspects of our Athletic Training Program, which includes coverage of Sport Club competitions and tournaments (such as rugby, lacrosse, ice hockey and baseball), Intramural Sports and Special Events; ordering/managing inventory and supplies; establish program protocols and long-term planning. Maintain the supplies and upkeep of the Athletic Training Room. Provide for prevention, assessment, treatment and follow-up of students injured in sport clubs activities. The Athletic Training GA needs to possess a current national athletic training certification (i.e., NATA).
Competitive Sports (1 position) – The Competitive Sports GA will assist with the day-to-day operations of the Competitive Sports Program; directly supervise, manage and mentor two student Program Assistants; serve as liaison to select sport clubs: this covers all aspects of club oversight, including risk management, inventory, waiver collection, etc.; conduct officer training, monthly meetings and practice oversight of select clubs; attend and participate in Sport Club Council and Sport Club Leadership Seminars; manage day-to-day operations of selected team sports, individual and dual activities each semester; recruit, train, supervise and evaluate intramural supervisors, officials and scorekeepers; assess and evaluate specific sports, including revision of rules, polices and inventory control.
Facility Operations (1 position) – The Facility Operations GA is responsible for supervising all the fields, complexes and centers that fall within the control of the Department of Recreational Sports on the main campus as well as the facility student staff. Some of the regular responsibilities are: select, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate Operations Supervisors, Operations Associates and Program Assistants; review all daily shift reports, update and maintain all paperwork at all facilities and inventory equipment; consult on facility budget; inspect all facilities to ensure that they are free of hazards and safe for patron activity.
Fitness (2 positions - 1 position in Personal Training and 1 position in Group Fitness) – The Personal Training GA will assist with daily operations of the personal training program; select, train, supervise and evaluate personal trainers and program assistants; develop personal training and fitness programs; implement and teach the personal training instructor training program; lead mentoring groups; collaborate with Strength and Conditioning and the Fitness Assessment Center to promote the fitness program; assist with budgeting and inventory control; Collaborate with other departments on campus to ensure an array of wellness opportunities for students; and run monthly meetings and schedule continuing education sessions for Personal Trainers.
The Group Fitness GA will assist with the daily operation and supervision of the Group Fitness Program; select, train, supervise, and evaluate program assistants and group fitness instructors; develop fitness and wellness programs; develop semester schedule and ensure appropriate coverage of classes; develop and implement continuing education and professional development for instructors; assist with budget and inventory tracking; coordinate special events to promote the group fitness program and the Department of Recreational Sports; instruct a variety of group fitness formats; and interact with various campus entities to enhance the fitness and wellness services offered to students.
