Basic Function/Purpose: The Coordinator of Fitness and Wellness Services provides leadership to Campus Recreation’s personal training, functional/group training, wellness nutrition coaching, and sports nutrition programs, as well as associated customized programming. This position has significant staff, administrative, fiscal, and programming responsibilities. A vital component of this position is a strong commitment to team work, customer service, marketing, and staff development. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
Coordinate revenue-generating personal training, functional/group training, wellness nutrition coaching, sports nutrition services, and associated customized fitness programming.
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time personal trainers, registered dietitians, and graduate assistant(s).
Coordinate employee orientations, trainings, continuing education and staff meetings.
Develop an approved budget for personal training, group training, wellness nutrition coaching, and customized programming.
Work closely with academic departments to share fitness spaces such as assessment/testing lab.
Confident in teaching academic courses related to personal/group training based on fundamentals of exercise physiology.
Work closely with Athletics to coordinate and manage sports nutrition services for ~500 student athletes.
Develop short term and long term goals and objectives for areas of responsibility as well as participate in department goal setting.
Develop policy and procedure manuals and staff handbooks.
Execute marketing and promotional plans for fitness and nutrition services.
Inventory, maintain and procure equipment and supplies for multiple training spaces. Make recommendations for new purchases.
Maintain accurate participant and program data. Compile statistical summaries including year-end reports.
Evaluate program offerings using satisfaction/interest surveys and make responsive recommendations according to participant needs.
Establish and maintain excellent customer service and client relations. Respond to suggestions, complaints, needs and interests in a timely manner.
Collaborate with the Fitness and Wellness team. Provide support to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness as needed.
Assist with the coordination of associated special events and programs.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years experience; -or- Associate’s degree with five (5) years experience; -or- seven (7) years experience.
Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human/sport science, physical education, recreation management, or closely related field.
Experience must include at least one (1) year supervision and one (1) year of experience in campus recreation or related field with financial responsibility.
Certification from an accredited organization such as ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or NASM in related program areas.
Knowledge and experience with safety and risk management as it pertains to a fitness setting.
Demonstrated knowledge and physical ability to lead fitness based activities and training, preferred in a collegiate setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, management, leadership, and professional skills.
Proven commitment to student and staff development and customer service.
A demonstrated ability to take initiative, problem solve, and meet deadlines.
Ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a goal-oriented team.
Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
A working computer knowledge using Microsoft Office and Adobe products in a Windows/network environment.
Master’s degree required in kinesiology/exercise science, human/sport science, physical education, recreation management, health education/promotion or closely related field.
Two years of demonstrated success in fitness programming management, preferred in a collegiate setting.
