The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn State University is seeking dynamic candidates for the Senior Associate Director for Facilities and Operations. Working collaboratively with and reporting to the Senior Director of Campus Recreation, this position will serve on the senior staff providing high-level leadership for the department. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf IM Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including 6 clay courts and 4 indoor courts, the White Building, Adventure Recreation, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
The Senior Associate Director is responsible for oversight of all facilities and operations in the Department of Campus Recreation including, but not limited to, the IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, White Building, Hepper Fitness Center, Tennis Center, Recreation Fields, and Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Space.
This position will manage, direct and administer the day-to-day operations of all indoor and outdoor recreational facilities including 400,000+ square feet of indoor facilities, 35+ acres of recreation fields (comprised of both natural and artificial surfaces), 6 clay tennis courts, and the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Space including Lake Perez. The successful candidate will directly supervise 5 Assistant Directors, and indirectly supervise 20 full-time career and tech service staff and more than 600 student employees. The ability to develop and prepare long-range strategic plans for the development and management of facilities is critical. Responsible to oversee the construction and special/capital improvement projects while also serving on University, Student Affairs and other work groups and committees.
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing multiple collegiate recreation sites including a wide array of venues with full-time staff supervisory and budget responsibilities is necessary.
This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Director as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment, as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts, as well as Student Affairs.
