The Graduate Assistant for Facilities & Aquatics is a para-professional member of the Department of Recreational Sports & Athletic Facilities staff. They have specific responsibilities for both facilities/fields and aquatics. The Graduate Assistant position is a nine and a half month position; mid-August - May. The recipient will receive a minimum stipend of $13,296 for nine and a half months, plus full tuition waiver equivalent to in-state tuition to Indiana State University. Summer employment opportunities are also available.
The Graduate Assistant’s specific and general expectations and responsibilities are listed below:
Motivate and lead employees to ensure customer service and facility presentation exceeds expectations.
Train, coach, supervise, and evaluate all Sports and Recreation Center staff.
Assist scheduling part-time and student staff (125 Sports & Recreation Center staff).
Opening and closing responsibilities.
Coordinate special events from beginning to end; scheduling, planning, and promotion.
On-site administrator for special events.
Build relationships with off-campus entities.
Inspect all on-site facilities on a daily basis, documenting any problems and presenting problems to proper individuals.
Enforce and revise rules and policies for the Sports and Recreation Center
Coordinate and lead quarterly training for Sports and Recreation Center staff.
Coordinate facility rentals (bike rental program, front desk equipment, etc.)
Assist with updating department website and social media websites.
Provide excellent customer service through: interacting with SRC patrons, promoting programs offered through the Recreation Department, getting feedback when possible, being visible while working.
Assist with facility, pool, and athletic field maintenance.
Assist with all recreational sports and varsity athletic activities as requested.
Assist with Game day operations for varsity athletics (including set-up/take-down).
Assist with planning, development and implementation of a comprehensive aquatics program (i.e. swim lessons, aquatic exercise classes, special events, etc.)
Assist with training, supervising, and evaluating Sports and Recreation Center Lifeguards.
Develop, coordinate, and administer quarterly in-services for Sports and Recreation Center staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Facilities & Aquatics GA Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, which will satisfy the graduate entrance requirements of Indiana State University.
Experience at the collegiate level in the administration of Facilities and/or Aquatics.
Strong interpersonal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Certified in CPR & First Aid.
Certified or ability to become a certified Lifeguard within first 30 days.
The purpose of the Rose-Hulman Sports and Recreation Center is to enhance the sense of community on campus by providing rewarding recreational, lifetime, and competitive activities for students, faculty, staff, board of trustee members, and alumni of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The Sports and Recreation Center was designed to foster a lifetime appreciation and involvement in recreation a...nd wellness by providing services that increase the quality of leisure time. These services include informal recreation, exercise classes/fitness programs, clinics/workshops, competitive intramural sports, equipment rentals, competitive division III sports events, and other special programs/events hosted by RHIT.
