The Office of Campus Recreation at Northeastern Illinois University is proud to announce two Graduate Assistant openings available for the 2017-2018 academic year: Team Challenge/Adventure and Facilities/Competitive Sports.
Team Challenge and Adventure – The Adventure Program (AP) Graduate Assistant, reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, will directly oversee and take on leadership roles with the climbing wall, bouldering wall, high ropes course, team building, and outdoor trips.
Assist the Assistant Director in all aspects of the AP including trips, clinics, and events.
Assist in the hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of climbing wall and ropes course facilitators.
Coordinate and lead team building efforts with First Year Experience (FYE) Program.
Develop and maintain program staff and program manuals.
Facilitate team building, climbing wall events, and challenge course events.
Develop, recruit, and lead each semester’s schedule for the following: open climb, open high ropes course, and outdoor trips.
Monitor trip leaders ensuring all paperwork is complete including: certifications, trip budget and itineraries, trip evaluations, and payroll.
Manage and maintain all equipment within the AP including: safety protocols, inspections, equipment checkout/return, and the retiring/purchasing of equipment.
Monitor the program website and recommend updates.
Team building, climbing wall, and challenge course facilitation experience.
Must be a motivated individual having a strong interest and knowledge in outdoor recreation and team challenge.
Completion of Bachelor’s Degree required.
Acceptance into a Graduate School Program at Northeastern Illinois University.
Experience working with diverse population a plus.
Facilities and Competitive Sports -Graduate Assistant, reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, will directly oversee all aspects related to facility management and competitive sports programming.
Assist in the management of facility operations including: opening and closing of facility, member services operations, enforcement of policies and procedures, equipment inventory, and payroll of building staff.
Oversee the promotion, registration, and scheduling of all intramural sports activities including but not limited to: basketball, flag football, volleyball, and soccer.
Assist in the hiring, training, and evaluating of intramural sports officials and supervisors.
Assist in the supervision of student building staff members and building supervisors.
Help schedule and manage staff for department special events and rentals.
Provide assistance with departmental risk management procedures.
Provide leadership during all staff training.
Experience officiating a variety of intramural sports; Intramural supervisor experience a plus.
Must have a general knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of sports.
All applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Exercise Science, or related field. All graduate assistant candidates must have a minimum of one year experience working within a campus recreation setting. Experience working with diverse populations a plus. Typical graduate study programs include: Business Administration, M.B.A.; Exercise Science, M.S.; Higher Education Leadership, M.A.; Geography and Environmental Studies, M.A.; Political Science, M.A.; Inner City Studies Education, M.A.; Human Resource Development, M.A; Communication, Media and Theatre, M.A.

Additional Salary Information: Graduate Assistant positions come with a $6500 annual stipend (2 semesters) and a full tuition waiver or a larger stipend to cover tuition and fees if a waiver is not granted. Stipends and tuition waivers are also available for summer courses. Hourly work is available during periods not covered by stipends.
On campus housing is available but not covered by this position.
