General Description of Duties :
The primary function of the Aquatics Coordinator is to oversee the utilization, operation and maintenance of the Woodruff Physical Education Center (WPEC) and the Student Activity and Academic Center (SAAC) swimming pools. These two facilities have five separate bodies of water: WPEC Olympic competition indoor pool, WPEC warming pool, SAAC outdoor Olympic pool, SAAC outdoor Teaching pool and SAAC outdoor Kiddie pool. All of the job functions below are for both recreation and athletic facilities. This position will provide leadership in managing all aspects of pool safety to ensure county code and university policies are enforced; oversee the aquatic users, and coordinate the aquatic activities within the overall mission of the Department of Athletics. This position is a full time, twelve-month, exempt professional staff member within Department of Athletics and reports to the Director of Recreation and Athletic Operations and Facilities.
Responsible for the management and the upkeep of all swimming pools on campus under the Athletics department.
Oversee the policies and procedures development for all areas of responsibility.
Manage risk management and safety plans for all swimming pools on campus.
Work collaboratively with athletics and recreation & wellness programming staff.
Coordinate with athletics to schedule access to the facility for practices, workouts and swim meets.
Develop and review recommendations regarding short-term and long-range facility projects.
Assist in developing long-range financial planning and development regarding swimming pool operations.
Research and develop new initiatives and technology to improve service, enhance revenue and system wide opportunities in aquatics.
Prepare regular written communication such as monthly and annual reports, financial, usage and equipment inventory reports.
Clarify and resolve complex problems spanning all aspects of the facilities.
STUDENT STAFF SUPERVISION AND SCHEDULING: (30%)
Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate operational and lifeguard aquatic staff.
Teach safety classes and lifeguard training classes.
Create and update staff manuals, job descriptions and staff expectations.
Coordinate the swimming pool operating hours and lifeguard schedules appropriately.
Coordinate with contracted management companies as necessary for all contracted services.
Schedule lifeguard request with internal or external groups.
Conduct bi-weekly in-service training for all aquatic staff.
Monitor the pool systems; report hazardous or unsafe conditions to facilities management and submit work orders.
Maintain all chemical log books of water treatment, general maintenance records and all aquatic facility maintenance requests.
Maintain, inventory, and purchase equipment.
Collaborate with facilities team to renovate and upgrade aquatic facilities.
Maintain policies and procedures in accordance with all affected groups including athletic training usage, ADA compliance, national regulations/health codes, and fire codes.
Create, implement and keep current appropriate signage in pool area.
Work collaboratively with Campus Services to develop strategic and preventative maintenance plans.
Coordinate with outside contractors to schedule maintenance and repairs at appropriate times.
ATHLETIC AND EXTERNAL EVENTS: (10%)
Provide guidance and leadership to execute successful intercollegiate home swim meets and external events.
Supervise any game day training with student staff.
Serve as a host to all visiting staff, team and officials.
Spectator management including sportsmanship and other needs related to any policies or procedures.
Coordinate any game day promotions for events in which serving as the event supervisor.
Serve as the supervisor for any and all other needs and issues associated with the event such as weather delays, fan medical needs, parking and transportation needs.
Work with internal and external support staff to prepare detailed plans, outlines and diagrams for distribution to carry out contractual and departmental obligations in conjunction with all aquatic events.
Serve on NCAA host management team. Expected to actively assist with all UAA and NCAA championship events hosted.
Attend departmental and divisional meetings as necessary.
Serve in an on-call function to support operations at the facilities.
Serve as a department ranking staff member on duty for operations and facilities; which includes, but is not limited to: serving as a first responder for emergency situations and providing emergency care, providing customer service, resolving conflicts and making decision and judgments regarding program and facility usage.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
This position is responsible for the integrity of Emory's intercollegiate athletics program and for the reputation of Emory University. This position is responsible for insuring that his/her involvement with Athletic Department activities maintains the integrity of the University's reputation and does not negatively impact the relationship between the University and its faculty, staff, students and alumni. Additionally, this position must comply with University policies and procedures, NCAA and conference rules and regulations.

Serve on campus committees as assigned. Some evening, weekend and holiday hours required. Performs responsibilities as assigned.
