University Recreation at Mississippi State University is seeking qualified applicants for GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS. The positions are 12-month positions, 0.5 FTE, and the University provides a tuition waiver. Students are responsible for fees.
COMPETITIVE SPORTS (2 positions): The graduate assistants will assist with the management and administration of the Intramural Sports program and the Sports Clubs program. Duties include: oversee daily operations of the Intramural Sports Office; assist with the training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of student staff; be present and on site as assigned for intramural and club sport events; insure The RecPlex (outdoor recreation facility) is adequately staffed for efficient operation; and conduct preseason, inseason, and postseason meetings of team representatives; and assist with sports officials training clinics. Preferred skill set includes 2 or more years experience as an intramural official, or an NFSHA certified official or ASA sanctioned umpire for 2 or more years. FACILITIES: The graduate assistant will assist with the management and supervision of the Joe Frank Sanderson Center, specifically supervision of student personnel. Duties include: insure that the Sanderson Center is open as advertised and adequately staffed for efficient operation; assist with the training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of student facility supervisors; be onsite as assigned; insure that all facilities offer a safe environment. FITNESS: The graduate assistant will specialize in Group Exercise programming, staffing and training, and will also assist with the management and supervision of the Strength & Aerobic Conditioning Room and Level II of the Joe Frank Sanderson Center and other fitness programs, including personal training. Duties include: assist with the training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of student fitness trainers and group exercise instructors; schedule fitness classes; insure the productivity of staff on a daily basis. Preferred skill set includes ACE, AFAA, or comparable certification. STIPEND: $12,681 for twelve months. The University will provide a tuition exemption of approximately 70% of assessed tuition and required fees. An exemption of 100% of the nonresident tuition/fee assessment will be provided to those not classified as a resident of Mississippi. Student will be responsible for the remaining balance of assessed tuition and required fees. Funding for professional development available.
