The Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports, a division of Athletics at the University of Virginia, is seeking qualified applicants for Facility Manager, Memorial Gymnasium, a full-time, twelve-month Management and Professional University Staff position with full benefits. With a customer-centric approach, the Facility Manager supports serving the University community through first-class recreational engagement that fosters wellness, impacts lives and generates life-long memories. Primary duties include facility and event management and operations; risk management; personnel management; customer service; and fiscal administration. The Facility Manager will also serve as a member of the department Facility Management Leadership Team supporting overall operation needs. The Facility Manager leads the facility operation of the historic Memorial Gymnasium, housing the academic programs of Kinesiology and Lifetime Physical Activities as well as Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Wrestling along with Intramural-Recreational Sports programs and open recreation. Additional facility leadership responsibilities include the 13-court Snyder Tennis Center, home of Men's and Women's Varsity Tennis; Carr's Hill Field, a lighted three-acre synthetic turf field, home of the Cavalier Marching Band; Nameless Field and Sand Volleyball Courts; Dell Basketball Courts; and Perry-Fishburne Tennis Courts. As the manager of a mix of E&G and auxiliary facilities, incumbent will ensure quality, timely maintenance, cleaning, and operations working closely with UVA Facilities Management and external vendors. Due to the nature of the business operations, the Facility Manager, Memorial Gymnasium will work and plan a varied annual work schedule to observe and/or supervise facility operations including early morning, evening and weekend hours. The typical work schedule is 9 am-6 pm, Monday-Friday with consistent early morning, evening and/or weekend shifts (1 to 3 per week) driven by facility demands and need for first-hand supervision of subordinates.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Sports Management, Physical Education, Athletic or Public Administration, Student Affairs or related field. Equivalent experience accepted in lieu of degree. Experience: Requires 4 to 7 years experience. Leading or overseeing a university or community-based recreation facility. Developing or administering a risk management/safety program or an emergency action plan for a recreation facility. Professional experience supervising student or part-time employees. Serving customers in a recreation setting. Certification: CPR/AED, First Aid or obtain within 90 days of employment.
