The Director of Campus Recreation will develop and implement a comprehensive program of events, services and facilities to create a healthy and active environment for the campus community which includes students, staff, faculty, alumni and the surrounding community. Oversees all components of the program including facilities management and preventative maintenance, risk management, operating policies and procedures, program development, staff supervision, revenue generation and budget management. Develop and implement policies and procedures for aspects of Campus Recreation. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate employees. Develop, maintain and manage the Campus Recreation budget and comply with university financial procedures and policies. Collects, analyze, and responds to assessment data regarding Campus Recreation. Partners with other Student Services department, academic departments and University Advancement on programs, services and fundraising initiatives. Oversee the management, maintenance, operation and scheduling of all Campus Recreation facilities. UHCL is in the process of building a Recreation and Wellness Center that is projected to be approximately 78,000 square feet, which includes dedicated space for exercise and various sports related activity. The building is currently scheduled to open in fall of 2018. The candidate hired for Director of Campus Recreation will be an instrumental part of the steering committee and will establish policies, procedures and revenue sources for the new building.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s Degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Higher Education, or a related field. Five years of full time progressive management experience in a recreation facility at an institution of higher education including experience in facility management. Experience in developing budgets, revenue, policies, programs, training, supervising full-time employees and working with diverse populations. CPR/first aid certification mandatory (must be obtained immediately upon hire if not current). Experience supervising multiple recreation professionals and student staff. Knowledge of recreation facilities operations. Knowledge of recreational industry standards for safety and risk management. Must have effective written and oral communication skills. Assessment skills. Experience with campus recreation programming and events. Budget development and management skills. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across campus and in the surrounding community. Security sensitive position – must pass criminal history and motor vehicle.
Preferred Requirements: Three years of direct responsibility for a recreation facility at a higher education institution. Work experience during the building or renovation of a recreation facility on a college campus.
Additional Salary Information: Full-time position with benefits. Salary range is $4,053.64 - $5,269.34 per month commensurate with qualifications and experience.
