Ensures the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of programs are conducted in accordance with established service and safety standards.
Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the program. Act as key contact.
Provide for effective customer service delivery, management of associated risks and liability, evaluation and development of programs, including monitoring and updating of policies and procedures.
Provide leadership and direction to ensure that the Intramural and Club Sports program offercompetitive opportunities for athletes and teams while supporting student leadership development.
Develop and manage Intramural and Club Sports policies and procedures based on university, department and governing body directives and guidelines as well as best practices.
Manage Club Sports athlete and team registration including the collection of forms and information including; facility use and scheduling, team travel, fundraising, compliance, assumption of risk/waivers, accident reports, insurance and risk management, athlete eligibility, post-season competition, development efforts, alumni relations, coach employment, team supervision and any other required documents.
Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program.
Ensures that policies & procedures are properly developed, communicated, interpreted and implemented uniformly; analyze and evaluate policies and procedures and revise as needed.
Oversight and supervision of club team tournament and special event planning.
Develop and maintain Club Sports program resources, including website, forms, and manual.
Act as a liaison with Athletic and University Development for alumni relations and gifts for Club Sports teams.
Collaborate with Student Activities and Leadership Office for club teams’ dual role as Club Sports teams and voluntary student organizations.
Provide leadership and direction to ensure that intramural sports and special events programs engage participants, promote health and wellness and provide a cross-section of opportunities for learning.
Assists in the development of a comprehensive package of promotional efforts.
Submits promotional copy for programs prior to established deadlines.
Defines target markets. Assists in conducting assessments and research.
Encourages participant use of social media to bring awareness to sports programs.
Responds to customer concerns and comments.
Ensures the indoor and outdoor facilities for all competitive sports programs are reserved and coordinated in accordance with the approved policies of Athletics Facilities.
Personnel Management (25%)
Provide engaged leadership and supervision of recreation program professional staff including the Assistant Director for Competitive Sports, Athletic Trainer, and Club Sports coaches.
Ensure that hiring, training and, when required, proper termination of all student and contingent staff for competitive sports programs are conducted in accordance with department and university policies and guidelines.
Develop, manage and evaluate staff for each program to maximize staff retention and professional growth. Select, train, supervise and evaluate part-time and seasonal staff teams.
Develop comprehensive training programs for club officers and staff teams. Create and deliver training as well as accountability for team captains, club officers and participants for improved program experience. Provide student leadership opportunities.
Advises and supports the student led Club Sports Council and ensures effective meeting are conducted regularly and accurate minutes are kept.
Financial and Administrative Management (15%)
Provide strategic analysis of competitive sports program budgets, ensuring operations are managed efficiently.
Monitor program area budgets routinely; oversee program area purchases; and ensure adherence to financial deadlines and guidelines.
Develop and direct the implementation of operating policies and procedures for competitive sports and programs.
Internal and External Leadership and Collaboration (10%)
Provide leadership and vision as member of Recreation Leadership Team; proactively contribute to strategic planning for all aspects of Recreation and Wellness.
Collaborate with university contacts including, but not limited to, DAPER, Alumni Association, and Student Activities and Leadership staff.
Education and Experience
Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in the field of kinesiology, exercise science, recreation, or related field. Master’s degree preferred
Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in campus recreation program management; 5-8 years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of current risk management practices in recreation settings, business skills necessary to generate revenue and balance budgets, professional and student development strategies; a thorough understanding of recreational and sports programs; familiarity of current office software programs; and university programming experience.
Demonstrated ability to complete tasks under deadline.

Certifications and Licenses
CPR/First Aid/AED Certification
Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally.
