Shenandoah Outdoor and Adventure Recreation Coordinator & Instructor of Outdoor Leadership & Education
Shenandoah University’s Office of Student Engagement is seeking applications for an Outdoor and Adventure Recreation Coordinator & Instructor to lead our SOAR program. This exciting and challenging role is a full time benefited Staff position based out of our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.
Core responsibilities for Outdoor Adventure & Recreation:
Manage the administrative operations of Shenandoah Outdoor and Adventure Recreation (SOAR) programs, including but not limited to: maintaining trip records and statistics for assessment; strategic planning and expansion; budgeting; scheduling of events; marketing programs; and maintenance and procurement of equipment; Plan, implement and provide leadership for outdoor workshops, trips, and events for students, faculty, and staff, including both new and returning participants; Develop and monitor a strategic plan for SOAR. Core responsibilities for Outdoor Leadership & Education:
This position will include teaching 6 credit hours per year (between Fall, Spring, and Summer) in the Outdoor Leadership and Education (OLED) academic program:
Collaborate with the outdoor leadership and education faculty to coordinate, supervise, and evaluate compliance with industry standards and preferred practice; Collaborate with curricular and co-curricular programs to enhance Shenandoah University’s mission and core values.
Masters degree in Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Education, or related field (minimum of 18 graduate credit hours relevant to outdoor education); Experience in teaching and/or instructing; Experience providing leadership to co-curricular outdoor recreation/education programs and services; Knowledge of and experience with evidence-based program evaluation; Knowledge of personnel administration, marketing, fiscal management, and facility/equipment management related to outdoor education and adventure-based programs and services; Current Wilderness First Responder; Familiarity with the industry standards and preferred practice for outdoor education and adventure-based programs and services.
