Campus Recreation at Towson University is currently accepting applications for an Associate Director - Business Operations to serve as a member of the departmental senior leadership team. The department is seeking a motivated professional interested in joining a growing team of equally dynamic and energetic staff members preparing for the completion of a 94,500 square foot building expansion to the current recreational facilities of Burdick Hall, set to open in the late fall 2017. The Associate Director - Business Operations reports to the Director of Campus Recreation providing strategic direction and oversight of departmental marketing and communication, membership and guest services, personnel management, financial management and budget forecasting, data analysis and reporting, and oversight of technological systems along with the evaluation of programs, services and operations to meet the needs of the University community. This position will direct tasks, projects, initiatives, and leadership in a manner that promotes student engagement, development and success in addition to patron and alumni engagement. This position manages and directs professional staff in the areas of Business & Guest Services, Marketing & Communication, and Student Personnel. Bachelor’s degree and five(5) years of work experience in the areas of quality assurance, technical training, project assessment, budget and fiscal planning, project management, marketing, and/or communication in the field of public relations, business administration, higher education administration, recreation and/or sport administration.
Evidence of superior communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
Experience with assessment and data analysis related to tracking and usage data, customer loyalty and/or outcome based assessments.
Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan strategically.
Fiscal/budget management experience.
Experience in the areas of research and assessment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and quality customer service.
Experience developing and delivering presentations to groups.
Evidence of experience or ability to coordinate/manage multiple initiatives, programs, projects, and deadlines.
Experience with and/ or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Current CPR/AED or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Master’s degree in in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Sport Administration, Recreation Management, Business Administration, Human Resources or related field.
Experience working in a collegiate recreational or sport/fitness facility.
Understanding of current issues and best practices in university recreation administration as well as commitment to student learning and development.
In-depth knowledge and experience working with a recreation facility management software system, membership sales system, or point of sale software system.
Demonstrated understanding of business services as it relates to a university/college environment.
Demonstrated administrative skills in: budget development and fiscal/statistical management; planning, implementing and evaluating programs; and customer service.
Demonstrated experience in all aspects of personnel management and staff development
Demonstrated experience developing or leading creation efforts of high-level electronic and multimedia marketing collateral.
Experienced based skills in writing press releases, newsletters and/or web content.
Experience developing sponsorship packages as a source of long-term revenue generating opportunities and fiscal management.
