The University of South Florida's Department of Campus Recreation is housed within Student Affairs and employs 29 full time employees and 400+ part time employees. The main Campus Recreation Center houses about 25,000 square feet of fitness space, four group fitness studios, and more than 350+ pieces of strength and cardiovascular fitness equipment. The department also manages two satellite fitness facilities boasting another 30,000 square feet of fitness space.
Position Summary: The Group Fitness Coordinator will report directly to the Assistant Director, Fitness and work collaboratively with two other coordinators within the fitness programmatic area to provide administrative leadership to the fitness program and related facilities. The group fitness program offers more than 50 free class sessions per week and includes non-credit instructional programs. This position will provide oversight, administration, development and direct supervision of group fitness staff including student and non-student employees. Some evenings and weekend supervisory and training hours required. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide for the consistent, comprehensive, and high quality recreational group fitness programming that includes group fitness classes, non-credit instructional programming, workshops, special events, and incentive programs
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and terminate (when necessary) group fitness instructors (student and non-student OPS employees) and program assistants; assists in supervision and leadership of internship students and Graduate Assistant
Collaborate with entities on and off campus to provide fitness/wellness programs, educational workshops, and private group programming; assist with the coordination of fitness programs and services for special populations, non-traditional students, and community members
Coordinate, host, and evaluate both in-house and nationally recognized workshops and certifications; maintain community partnerships to ensure proper professional development of group fitness program staff
Monitor daily usage of program participation; record and prepare statistical data for reports and future program development
Research, purchase, maintain, and inventory program related fitness equipment; complete safety and risk management audits
Assist Assistant Director by recommending and operating within budget structure for staffing, programming, and equipment needs
Participate in Student Affairs and Campus Recreation Departmental initiatives and complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or other allied health degree with at least one year of experience working professionally in health/fitness setting in a supervisory role. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor degree requirement for this position.
Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Exercise Science or other allied health degree with at least one year experience working professionally in university recreation health/fitness setting (two years of a graduate assistantship can substitute for one year of experience); Group Exercise Certification and the ability to teach multiple group formats (e.g Yoga, Pilates, Cycling, Kickboxing, etc). One of the following certifications: ACSM EP-C, ACSM CPT, NSCA CPT, NASM CPT or ACE CPT; experience in fitness education, training, and program planning.
