Working collaboratively with and reporting to the Senior Director of Campus Recreation, this position will serve on the senior staff providing high-level leadership for the department. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: Adventure Recreation, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness & Wellness programming, Intramural Sports, the IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center, and White Building. The Senior Associate Director is responsible for overseeing all recreational program areas in the Department of Campus Recreation including, but not limited to Adventure Recreation, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness & Wellness, Intramural Sports and Student Development. This position will manage, direct and administer the day-to-day operations of all program areas as well as the marketing and communications efforts for the department, including the development, management and oversight of budgets in excess of 6 million dollars. The successful candidate will directly supervise 4 Assistant Directors, and indirectly supervise 13 full-time professional staff and more than 400 student employees. Additionally, this position will have dotted line supervisory responsibilities for the Assistant Director for Marketing. The ability to develop and prepare long-range strategic plans for the development and growth of program areas is critical. Ancillary duties include surviving on and/or leading University, Student Affairs and other work groups and committees.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master’s Degree in educational administration, recreation or sport management, business administration, or a related field is preferred. This position requires independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Director as appropriate. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills are essential. Must be able to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines. Attention to detail and good judgment are vital requirements. The successful candidate will have the willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment, as well as an eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts, as well as Student Affairs. The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees and participants is essential. Successful candidate must have experience managing collegiate recreation program areas with full-time staff supervisory and budgetary responsibilities will be expected.
