Oklahoma State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Coordinator of Aquatics & Risk Management. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to create world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom. This position reports to the Facility Manager. The candidate will provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operation of Oklahoma State University Department of Wellness aquatic facilities with an emphasis on providing a safe, well-maintained and proficiently staffed environment. This position will provide significant instruction and development of students and manage instructional aquatic programs, risk management, schedules, event management, and equipment maintenance.
Specific responsibilities include:
Provide leadership and manage the day-to-day operation of Oklahoma State University Department of Wellness aquatic facilities. The Colvin pool includes an outdoor leisure pool with a lazy river, and three lanes for lap swimming, a 6 lane indoor pool 25 yard pool and dive well. The aquatic center is part of the Colvin Recreation Center which is an approximately 250,000 sq. ft. recreation and fitness facility.
Primary operator of both indoor and outdoor pools including responsibility for the mechanical and physical operations of the pools.
Oversee the Learn to Swim program
Coordinate all chemical purchases and delivery
Oversee and track the CPR/AED certifications for Departmental Full-Time Staff and GA’s.
Communicate expectations, policies and guidelines of appropriate use of facilities. Recommend improvements to policies and guidelines as needed.
Resolve conflicts that occur in facilities. Specific examples include user non-compliance of facility and department policies and guidelines, illegal access of facilities, inappropriate behavior, etc.
Maintain aquatics equipment and informal recreation swim equipment.
Ensure all aquatic facilities operate within required risk management procedures and oversee the implementation of standardized safety practices. Oversee compliance with Oklahoma State University and applicable national standards and regulations.
Supervise approximately 25 student staff that includes: lifeguards, head guards, swim instructors, and a Graduate Assistant of Aquatics, with a focus on student training, development and learning. Staff is responsible for operational procedures, emergency response plans, maintaining a safe environment/risk management and providing quality customer service to all students and members.
Provide instruction and development opportunities for staff through training, coaching, and performance evaluations that incorporate student learning outcomes. Specific outcomes include critical thinking, creative thinking, problem solving, quality customer service, conflict resolution, initiative, communication, and innovation. Ensure high level of integrity, teamwork, communication, and initiative of all staff. Successful outcomes are achieved through coaching, consistent feedback, and regular performance evaluations.
Coordinate student staff in-service trainings specific to emergency, accident and incident protocols. Make changes to emergency action plan as needed. Track and maintain relevant certifications for staff and the Department.
Responsible for departmental annual asset management inventory.
Identify strategies for facility operations to be more efficient and effective through technology and other processes and systems.
Assist with the development and execution of assessment programs for facility operations. Participate in overall department assessment and goal planning.
Responsible for managing time cards and bi-weekly payroll for staff.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions.
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
1-2 years of experience managing aquatics facilities (a two-year Graduate Assistantship will be counted as 1 year of experience.)
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification by date of hire.
Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with initiative, critical and creative thinking;

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING/EDUCATION
Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, student affairs, higher education administration or other related field. If in progress, must be completed by date of hire.
Successful professional, internship or graduate assistantship experience in aquatics management.
2-3 years of successful professional experience in aquatics facility management.
