POSITION DESCRIPTION: Full-time professional exempt staff position with full benefits. The Coordinator of Lifeguards has major responsibility for staffing University Recreation & Wellness aquatic facilities – the Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium and Outdoor Aquatic Center. Specific responsibilities include: recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising 130 students employed as lifeguards and head lifeguards for scheduled aquatic recreation hours, programs, and events; coordinating lifeguard and head lifeguard work schedules; assisting the Director of Aquatics with administration of swim meets and aquatic events; and teaching Kinesiology aquatic classes as assigned. Some evening and weekend work is required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have, as a minimum: a Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of full-time or 2 years of part-time experience training and supervising others; two (2) years of experience working in a community/collegiate recreation aquatic environment; current American Red Cross Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor certifications; strong communication and customer service skills. Preferred: Master’ degree, current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification, current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification, experience teaching, experience with swim meets and electronic timing systems, experience working with college student personnel.
START DATE: July 1, 2017 preferred.
