Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation - Club Sports & Facilities, the Coordinator of Campus Recreation - Club Sports is responsible for assisting with the development and administration of a comprehensive Club Sport program serving the needs of 50 Club Sport teams and over 1,800 student-athletes. This position supports the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation - Club Sports & Facilities with the oversight of all aspects of the Club Sports Program, including development, operations and public presence. Provides leadership and supervision for assigned campus recreation facilities and personnel. This individual will serve as a supervisor of student employees, professional interns and temporary non student employees for Campus Recreation. Required to work on pre-determined weekends covering events throughout a calendar year, some evenings and early mornings, and during inclement weather.
Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, sports administration, general studies or related field.
Minimum of 1 year of successful experience in sports or recreation administration, or within a closely related field.
Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
Passion for planning, implementing and evaluating Club Sport Programs and Campus Recreation activities.
Required to work on pre-determined weekends covering events throughout a calendar year, some evenings and early mornings, and during inclement weather.
Demonstrated strength in ability with the following: communication, negotiation and problem solving skills necessary to successfully manage issues with agencies, vendors, consultants, as well as when resolving conflicts. Possess strong integrity; ability to maintain accurate records and files. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as supervisory and training skills when working with student employees/leaders. Interpersonal skills and customer service skills. Ability and interest in serving as a mentor for students. Detail oriented and highly organized. Set priorities in order to perform a high volume of detailed work with constant interruptions. Successfully deal with a variety of situations in a fast paced environment when working across an organization’s many functional areas. Communicate with clarity, tact and diplomacy with a variety of people on the phone and in meetings, and when dealing with the public/external constituents. Work independently or within a team focused environment, meeting deadlines and handling/taking ownership of multiple projects simultaneously without negative impact on demeanor/attitude. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers. Influence others in a positive direction and to resolve conflicts.
Lifting equipment ranging from 10lbs.- 400lbs. is required, with assistance from others or from machinery.
Knowledge of the following, supported by skills and abilities: current trends in Campus Recreation/Club Sports; student development theory; risk management; assessment and evaluation of participant/customer satisfaction through needs assessment; comprehensive program development, equipment/supplies purchasing; identify capital equipment; strong follow through; ability to make sound independent judgments and possess proven critical thinking skills, principles and processes for performance management grounded in accountability and ability to work appropriately with high level constituents, vice presidents and dignitaries.
Master’s degree in recreation management, sports administration, higher education administration or related field
Experience assisting with the administration of a comprehensive Club Sports Program.
Experience assisting with developing student management models, grounded in student development theory.
Facilitator/training experience, public speaking/presentation skills.
Ability to adapt to learning in-house systems of management/logistics/ and robust daily operations of campus recreation programs/facilities, and focused experience in Club Sports.
Human resource administration experience.
Supervising student & temporary non-student employees.
Experience with EMS software.
