The Professional Intern of Competitive Sports assists in the administration and oversight of all aspects of a comprehensive Intramural and Club Sports program.
Primary responsibilities include:
Club Sports Program Management
Assist with the coordination and leadership of 25 club sports teams including but not limited to administration, officer development, policy development, scheduling, risk management, budget oversight and equipment management. Monitor weather and field conditions and determine if cancellations are necessary and communicate with officers and coaches. Assist with the development of effective marketing and promotional strategies. Supervise high-risk club sports matches and tournaments (ex: Rugby and Ice Hockey). Assist with collecting and following-up with all accident and incident reports.
Intramural Sports Management
Assist with the coordination and supervision of a comprehensive intramural sports program including, but not limited to, program administration, staff development, policy development, scheduling, assessment, risk management, special events, budget oversight, and equipment management. Provide leadership in the hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of student employees including supervisors and officials for Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, and Soccer. Create and communicate weekly staff schedules for officials and supervisors and develop more effective training programs. Utilize IM Leagues for player registration, eligibility, schedules and standings. Communicate with all staff and participants regarding schedules, changes, forfeits, cancellations, and all other issues. Manage employee payroll, daily reports, injury reports and accident reports. Monitor weather and field conditions and determine if cancellations are necessary and communicate with participants and staff about rescheduled games. Create, promote and execute Special Events.
Assist with the planning and event management of department and programs events. Communicate with participants, officers, coaches, staff and the Assistant Director. Assist with collecting and following-up with all accident and incident reports.
Support the administration of the competitive sports program. Educate and enforce all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Provide strong leadership to participants, students and staff. Strive to achieve personal, professional, and departmental goals set during training exercises. Build and maintain open communication with students, staff and professional staff members. Represent the program in a professional and exemplary manner while working for the Department of Recreational Sports, on campus and around the community. Any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Competitive Sports.
