The Department of Campus Recreation at Penn Sate University is seeking a marketing strategist to lead the strategic planning, development and implementation of various marketing and communications initiatives. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Adventure Recreation, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports. Under the general supervision of the Communications Manager for Student Affairs with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation, this position will promote Campus Recreation’s programming and facilities while ensuring materials and communications align with Penn State and Student Affairs brand guidelines. The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing the results of marketing and communications efforts and using them to improve future strategy. This position works closely with the Student Affairs communications team as well as the Campus Recreation Management Team and staff.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The marketing communications specialist must have a strong design experience as well as strong writing/editing skills and know how to write press releases, marketing copy, web copy, and social media content. Photography and/or videography experience is strongly preferred. The candidate should understand marketing strategy and have experience in advertising. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a complex diverse work environment. The position requires proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and experience with web content management systems, ideally Drupal. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of creativity and the ability to develop marketing messages and materials relevant to a student population. Leadership and supervisory skills to select, supervise, motivate and evaluate student employees relative to work performance as demonstrated through past supervisory experiences. Budgeting skills to manage the Campus Recreation marketing budget and prioritize the use of funds is a necessity.
