Working Title: Coordinator for Camps and Adventure Recreation Programs
Department: Wellness & Recreation Center - MMC
Ability to supervise and train employees.
The Coordinator of Adventure Recreation is responsible for the oversight of adventure recreation program, staff and management of the summer and day camp programming.
Recruit, schedule, select and train Adventure Recreation staff, and Trip Leaders.
Responsible for all facets of the Outdoor Trip programs. Implement, schedule, organize, train and staff all the trips.
Evaluate performance and program effectiveness of Adventure Rec programming areas.
Assist in facility management, policy development and risk management for the adventure recreation trips and rental center.
Collaborate with other campus departments to develop the outdoor recreation program.
Develop and maintain inventory of all Outdoor Rental equipment.
Coordinate and manage summer and day camp programming.
Responsible for the management and inventory of all camp supplies.
Plan, schedule and assign staff to the summer and day camp programs.
Assists in oversight of FIU Bike Shop operations, including staffing, inventory, purchasing, and services.
Responsible for the operating, preparation, forecasting and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to program area.
Evaluates student outcomes and customer service.
Maintains statistical information on program participation and conducting regular program assessments.
Participates in the development and implementation of Recreation Center policies.
Participates on University committees and/or with other departments to effectively promote Wellness & Recreation Center.
Maintains confidentiality of records in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Bachelor’s degree required in Sport Management or related field of study; Master’s preferred.
At least 2 years of progressive experience. (Graduate Assistant years accepted)
Experience working in a collegiate/community recreation environment, strong communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated experience with outdoor recreation trips and rental centers.
Valid Driver’s license and a clean driving record
Demonstrated outdoor skills in rock climbing, hiking and backpacking, kayaking and canoeing, and facilitating teambuilding initiatives.
Demonstrated experience within camp management.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
Fiscal accountability; demonstrated experience purchasing outdoor and camp equipment.
Knowledge of standard practices and demonstrated experience in recreational sports.
Leadership and supervisory abilities.
Ability to work as part of and lead a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, and render consistent, logical decisions.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyle choices.
American Canoe Association Certification
American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch
Wilderness First Responder Certification with AED/CPR
Some knowledge of HR theories and best practices in recruitment and staff development.
Basic accounting knowledge; capability of understanding budgets.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CSI Software.
