The Fitness Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing all aspects of the Fitness program including teaching group fitness classes and oversight for associated facilities and equipment within these facilities. This consists of the department’s group exercise and instructional programs, personal training, fitness certifications and fitness special programs. In addition, will be responsible for teaching Alcohol Education (WELL 085) and health education topics (WELL 090).
Hire and supervise part time and student staff which includes scheduling, assigning work, reviewing performance, recommending salary increases, promotions, or terminations. Conduct instructor and program evaluations at the conclusion of each program. Develop clear and measurable systems to track and report progress. (20%)
Develop and implement University’s group fitness program including teaching four group fitness classes per week. Serve as a substitute instructor as needed for fitness classes and special events. (15%)
Develop, implement and monitor short and long-range planning for fitness programs, to include structured training program for personal trainers, fitness instructors and fitness specialists including monthly training clinics, certification/continuing education programs and opportunities, and evaluations. (15%)
Plan and oversee 2 fitness special programs per semester. (10%)
Collaborate with Health Promotions Department to implement a comprehensive approach to campus fitness and well-being. (5%)
Develop, monitor, and annually review and update all departmental budgets to provide sound fiscal management for the department including all operating, revenue, and labor budgets. (5%)
Assist with facility equipment research, purchasing, organization, and maintenance on fitness floor, multipurpose rooms, and all areas where fitness programs are offered by the department (5%)
Serve as a trained Wellness Coach to facilitate integration of health and wellness services to students and employees. (5%)
Teach 3- WELL 085 classes and 2 – WELL 090 classes each academic year. (5%)
Collaborate with the School of Professional and Continuing Studies to offer fitness instructional programs (FIP) throughout the fiscal year. (5%)
Collaborate with nationally accredited fitness/wellness certifying organizations to host workshops and certification programs and collaborate with nearby universities and community clubs to establish the Weinstein Center as a premier facility for health and recreation professional development and certifications. (5%)
Assist with the organization and facilitation of Summer Camp hosted through SPCS for 2 weeks each summer. (5%)
Serve on University and Student Development committees as assigned.
Knowledge, skills & ability:
Must possess thorough knowledge of fitness and wellness aspects
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing with diverse University constituents, including faculty, staff, students.
Strong organizational skills required to balance a variety of tasks with a high degree of competence and accuracy.
One or more related certifications from a nationally recognized organization (NSCA, ACSM, ACE, AFAA) or ability to obtain.
Requires ability to use computer for word processing, e-mail, and internet.
University approved driver certification required within first year of hire.
CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred. Required within thirty days of employment.
Wellcoaches (Wellness Coaching) certification required within first year of hire.
2 years of related work experience
Experience teaching health/wellness and group fitness classes
Personal Training experience and knowledge preferred
