MIT Recreation, managed by Health Fitness, has a great opportunity for an Assistant Aquatic Director in Cambridge, MA. This premier program consists of a 150,000 sq. ft. facility complete with an Olympic 50m pool and an Instructional 25yd pool, two floors of fitness activity space housing over 90 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, two full lines of strength equipment, free weight room, squash courts, multi-activity court and is connected to 3 additional athletic facilities housing multiple gymnasiums, an indoor track and ice rink. Serving an eligible population of 15,000+, this program incorporates comprehensive fitness and recreational programming all into one facility.
The Assistant Aquatic Director will assist the Aquatic Director in the administration of the Aquatic Center, its staff, programs, and the coordination of the Learn To Swim Program. The Assistant Aquatic Director assumes functional and administrative responsibility for the adult, youth, group and private swim lesson program; learn to swim instructors and birthday party rentals.
Direct, manage, budget and evaluate Learn To Swim Instructors.
Direct, manage, budget and evaluate Youth Lesson Programs.
Direct, manage, budget and evaluate Adult Specialty Lesson Programs.
Direct, manage and evaluate Aquatic Orientations and Assessments.
Direct, manage and evaluate community group lessons.
Manage, budget and evaluate Private Swim and Dive Lesson Program.
Assist with marketing and publicity for Aquatic program and events.
Compile Aquatic information for publication and website.
Attend marketing and program committee meetings.
Conduct instructor in-services and new hire training.
Maintain program equipment inventory.
Liaison with fitness to monitor triathlon and water fitness classes.
Produce policy and procedure manuals for instructors.
Approve and schedule all birthday party rentals.
Produce quarterly and annual reports.
Management of aquatic instructors.
Cover instructor and lifeguard shifts and find substitute when needed in “call out” and emergency situations.
Address patron concerns and questions involving programs and events taking place within the Aquatics Center.
Make periodic rounds of aquatic pool deck to ensure safety.
Facilitate and evaluate daily rentals.
Maintain inventory for all learn to swim equipment.
Recommend and evaluate equipment needed to enhance aquatic program and repair/replace worn out existing equipment.
Serves as a Customer Service Representative for the Aquatic Program, managing phone calls, answering patron questions, and directing patrons to appropriate staff.
Interprets and assists in the enforcement of policies and procedures of DAPER facilities.
Manage the deck and facilitate aquatic programs and groups.
Attend administrative staff meetings.
Complete special projects as assigned.
Other duties as assigned by Aquatic Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Prior management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related field.
Certifications: CPR for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
Experience managing special aquatic populations including adaptive aquatics.
Ability to multi-task while possessing a professional demeanor and attitude.
Ideally the candidate would have experience working for a Collegiate Athletic or Recreation Department.
Excellent verbal and written skills; and quality customer service skills required.
Experience using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and FileMaker Pro.
Experience using CSI Spectrum NG software.
Two to five years management experience working in aquatics, recreation, athletics, physical education or related field.
Certifications: Certified Pool Operator, SCUBA, Lifeguard Instructor/Trainer and WSI/Trainer.
