The University of Colorado Colorado Springs is seeking a dynamic, innovative and student development-centered individual for the position of Coordinator of Fitness. The Coordinator of Fitness is responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the UCCS group fitness, small group training, and personal training programs. The successful candidate will promote and cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. The position manages sensitive issues including discipline of student employees who have demonstrated unsatisfactory work or inappropriate behavior. Likewise, the position will have significant impact upon the image of Campus Recreation & Wellness through the visibility associated with being a public representative of the department in numerous events and activities.
Typical work schedule Monday – Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM including some early morning or evening hours, weekends, holidays and the ability to attend on and off campus events.
Reports directly to the Program Coordinator of Aquatics and Special Events
Position provides oversight and direction of a student program assistant, fitness instructors, personal trainers, interns, and volunteers
Examples of Work Performed
Administer, develop, plan, implement, organize, and evaluate a comprehensive group fitness and personal training program
Assesses current activities and researches industry trends to compile a diverse array of offerings to best meet patron needs
Oversees class schedule, monitors and maintains in-person and online registration processes, and responds to participant inquiries
Coordinates, promotes, supervises, and evaluates revenue-generating group fitness, small group training, personal training, and associated customized fitness programming
Serves as an instructor when necessary
In collaboration with the Program Coordinator of Aquatics and Special Events, develop, plan, administer, implement and evaluate specialized Rec Kids fitness camps
Work collaboratively with other members of Campus Recreation and our division staff to conduct special events and programs for the campus community
In collaboration with the Coordinator of Outdoor Programs & Trails identify opportunities to offer fitness programming on the UCCS Trails System
Create and implement residence hall fitness education seminars to promote healthy lifestyles and program participation
Regularly reports assessment and statistical data pertaining to operations, participation, and staff development
Human Relations & Student Development:
Implements fitness staff development including training, onboarding of new staff and professional development
Supervision & Advisement:
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 15+ group fitness instructors and personal trainers including positive recognition and merit raise procedures as well as follow established disciplinary procedures as necessary
Fiscal & Resource Management:
Report group fitness and personal training student payroll and operational budget expenses to the Program Coordinator of Aquatics and Special Events
Oversees group fitness and small group training equipment maintenance, security, inventory, and organization
Demonstrate the proper use of equipment, outline policies and procedures for new students and members to help familiarize them with group fitness and personal training programming
Promotions & Marketing:
Collaborates in fitness, wellness, and nutrition programming across campus including partnership efforts with Manager of Wellness Promotion, the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Lane Center, Dining and Hospitality Services, Student Activities and Organizations, Greek Affairs, and Intercollegiate Athletics
In collaboration with the Program Coordinator of Membership and Communications, advertise and market group fitness, personal training program offerings, and services across campus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Certification or ability to become certified within 6 months in American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED.
Ability to effectively instruct and provide public presentations
Program budget projections and tracking
Strong commitment to student management, training and development
Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field AND two (2) years of experience in recreation or fitness setting.
Current group exercise instructor and/or personal training certification through ACE, AFAA, NSCA, ACSM, or other nationally recognized agency
Group fitness and personal training program management experience in an educational setting
