The Recreation Operations Program Manager oversees fitness & wellness programs and front desk operations within the Recreational Services program at the University of Portland. As one of three full-time professionals in recreation, the Recreation Operations Program Manager has a large impact on the customer experience by guiding front desk operations and staff and programming fitness and wellness programs. This position includes oversight of student staff in the areas of fitness and wellness, strength training and front desk operations.
Specific responsibilities include:
Plan, develop, organize, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the University’s recreational fitness, wellness, and related programs.
Hire, train, supervise, and schedule student employees and part-time seasonal employees to staff the Beauchamp Center front desk, weight room, and fitness and wellness programs. Responsible for evaluation and disciplinary processes for all supervised employees. Responsible for payroll-related duties for all supervised employees. Develop and implement annual training and leadership development program for student employees.
Develop processes for the Beauchamp Center front desk, weight room, equipment check-out, and document processes, and train Beauchamp staff on such processes. Oversee and coordinate Beauchamp Center front desk sales (including point-of-sale, money handling, deposits, balancing, and audits). Duties also include overseeing the entry-to-exit “experience” of customers at the Beauchamp Center (including customer service, visual and audio design of facility areas, signage, ease-of-use of services, accessibility, convenience, hours of operation, and information).
Manage, update, and enforce policies and procedures related to facilities, operations, and fitness and wellness programs (including, but not limited to, user status, user attire, behavior, guests and equipment checkout), in conjunction with the Director of Recreational Services.
Oversee policies and processes related to sales and membership programs for Beauchamp Recreation Center, including, but not limited to, locker rentals, alumni memberships, and guest passes.
Manage on-site events for both on-campus and off-campus groups. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, policy development, planning meetings, and on-site coordination during events.
Maintain, distribute, and order supplies for the Beauchamp Center’s front desk and office. Coordinate front desk staffs’ duties related to the repair and maintenance program for the Beauchamp Center’s fitness equipment; notify Director of Recreational Services of service and maintenance needs for exercise equipment. Manage and update software applications used for sales, memberships, lockers, equipment inventory, and equipment rental; collaborate and coordinate with University’s IS Department as necessary regarding relevant hardware and software matters.
Develop marketing plan for fitness and wellness programs, weight room, special events, and facility utilizing digital, printed, and other relevant media,consistent with the department’s overall marketing plan. Evaluate effectiveness in reaching campus and off-campus communities.
Assist with determining budget needs and administering budget allocations for fitness and wellness programs, weight room, front desk staffing, and department supplies; monitor expenditures and payroll in accordance with established procedures.
Develop, maintain, and analyze facility, program, and user data, and apply data to improve or adjust areas such as programming, staffing, maintenance, and operational hours. Prepare annual statistical comparison of data in areas such as facility and area usage, class attendance, special programs, and student wages.
Education and Experience Required: Associate’s degree Required: 3 years of experience in relevant area. Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field
