The Assistant Director - Programs is responsible for all programming areas including intramural sports, sport clubs, group fitness, personal training, special events, community leagues, and summer camps. This is a full time professional position which reports directly to the Director of Recreational Services. This is a 12 month position.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Directly supervise 5-6 Rec Sports Managers and approximately 15 officials/scorekeepers.
Develop and implement training and evaluations for all intramural employees including both in-game evaluation as well as general performance evaluation.
Schedule all facility spaces used by intramural sports, including the intramural field, gym courts, MAC Court, and any varsity athletic facilities.
Order and inventory all equipment for intramurals
Create and maintain budget for all necessary equipment.
Update all intramural rules and intramural sports guide to participation.
Coordinate staff trainings for intramural sports and special events
Develop the Intramural Sports Schedule for Fall and Spring Semesters.
Direct weekly staff meetings with Rec Sports Managers.
Provide training and guidance to 15-20 sport club presidents in areas of scheduling, fundraising, recruitment, and overall club management.
Organize and run one sport club meeting per semester for club officers.
Review and update the Sport Club Manual annually.
Serve as the advisor to the Sport Club Council.
Schedule games/contests, assign officials, and assist in coordinating travel.
Schedule all facility spaces used by sport clubs both for practices and matches.
Remind club officers of important dates with ABCC (roster submission, funding requests, mandatory meetings, etc.)
Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate approximately 10 group exercise instructors per semester.
Provide leadership and guidance to a Group X Manager
Work with Group X Manager to schedule all group fitness classes for fall, spring, summer, and exam weeks.
Develop in-person evaluation schedule of each class with Group X Manager
Assist Group X Manager in planning and execution of semester incentive programs for participants and instructors.
Update and Revise the Group X Manual annually.
Collaborate with Group X Manager to create agenda for monthly staff meetings.
Coordinate all details for winter youth indoor soccer league.
Develop and promote engaging summer camp activities alongside Lead Summer Camp Counselor.
Hire, Train, and evaluate approximately 6 Summer Camp Counselors and one Lead Summer Camp Counselor
Communicate effectively with parents and children for all community leagues and events.
Manage personal training program
Interview, hire, train, evaluate and discipline Personal Trainer(s).
Promote the Department of Recreational Services.
Update WhenToWork with staff schedules for all events and programs.
Promote holistic development of the student through evaluation process.
Encourage at least one staff bonding event per semester from each individual program area (intramural sports, group fitness, climbing wall, etc.).
Aid in the implementation and facilitation of program assessments.
Promote outside professional development opportunities to students
Supervision of (at least) 1 school year intern and 1 summer intern.
Serve on various divisional and institution wide committees, as needed.
Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required;
Preferred: Master's degree from an accredited institution
At least one year of full-time experience working in a campus recreation program in a higher education setting (or two years as a graduate assistant or equivalent).
Experience working in multiple areas (Fitness/Wellness, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Outdoor Pursuits, Community Programming).
Experience officiating a variety of sports preferred.
Experience with functional movement and proper lifting techniques preferred.
Familiarity with WhenToWork preferred.
Experience with IMLeagues preferred.
Experience with Drupal or similar web-design and editing software preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Publisher.
Working knowledge of Google Products (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred.
Standard First Aid, CPR and AED certification current at the time of hire.
Must be willing to work flexible hours and be willing to be physically active for training and evaluation components within the position.
