The Recreation Department at the University of California- Santa Barbara is looking for an energetic, student focused professional to join our team.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Fitness, Wellness, and Special Programs, the Gaucho REC Coordinator is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination, and the general supervision of the Recreation Department’s noncredit instructional and recreational classes for students, staff, faculty, and community members. Plans, organizes and implements a quarterly schedule of noncredit instructional and recreational classes serving students, faculty, staff and community members across a myriad of disciplines. Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the Gaucho REC, Group Fitness, Cycle, Mind/body programs. Sets program procedures and approves class offerings/schedules. Facilitates the scheduling of space for these activities, hires and manages the instructors, works with the marketing team to ensure these programs are effectively marketed to the UCSB community, handles all comments/complaints from participants, and regularly evaluates the effectiveness/profitability of these programs. Assists with the management and coordination of the summer youth camps.

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Three years experience managing group fitness classes required. Demonstrated ability to hire, train and manage part time staff. Occasional night and weekend work is required. Strong office administration and organization skills. Ability to use basic computer programs including Office Suite products. Satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check. Mandated reporting requirements of child abuse.
Preferred: Bachelors degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or a related field preferred. Masters degree preferred. Five years progressive experience in Campus Recreation or related recreation field preferred. Strong business acumen to develop new and creative programming that can bring in additional revenue streams to Recreation programs. Experience with a recreation member management software is preferred.
