Other essential and non-essential responsibilities and projects may be assigned.]The Communications and Special Events Coordinator has direct oversight of the Recreation and Wellness Marketing Team, department communications, and department-wide special events.Area Management:Develops, implements, and evaluates a department-wide marketing and communications plan.•Develops, implements, and evaluates recreation and wellness-based special events. •Manages the production and distribution of all Recreation & Wellness advertising materials and promotional efforts.•Works with Recreation & Wellness program areas to support their promotional needs and ensures that marketing strategies and objectives effectively reach their intended target audiences.•Manages operating budget, prepares annual budget requests and quarterly budget projections for the Recreation & Wellness Marketing Team and special events.•Oversees the development and maintenance of the Recreation & Wellness website, social medial initiatives, and digital signage portals.•Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates student employees, including: graphic assistants, photographer/videographer, event specialist, field marketers, and special event staff.•Provides leadership to, and development of, student employees, including motivating, retaining, and handling disciplinary issues.•Responsible for establishing and nurturing campus and community relationships and partnerships. •Grow brand representation on campus through the planning and implementation of special events, outreach, and personal engagement initiatives.•Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for team members & event staff, as appropriate; regularly evaluate training to ensure it is applicable and meets established goals.Administrative duties: Responsible for the preparation, forecasting, and monitoring of income and expense budgets as it relates to the marketing department. •Create, encourage, and support professional development opportunities for marketing staff, including professional association involvement, training programs, and individual mentoring.•Manage student staff by developing schedules, delegating and coordinating assignments, offering creative feedback, constructive criticism, and enforcing deadlines.•Complete comprehensive analytical and statistical reports regarding marketing, communications, and special events on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.•Effectively markets and promotes all Recreation & Wellness program areas, facilities, services, and events to the campus community, and when applicable to the local community.•Coordinate and schedule staff for special events and promotional tabling at Orientation sessions and Student Affairs and University-wide events; be present and work these events as needed. •Ensures that all promotional materials are inclusive and positively represent the department, division, and university.•Oversees and edits student graphic design and video production work and ensures it is free of spelling and grammar mistakes.•Ensures that marketing staff are knowledgeable and engaging to recruit students to participate in programs and special events.•Forms partnerships to collaborate with other departments on campus.•Responsible for soliciting sponsors and exhibitors for department events.•Conducts regular needs assessments and surveys ascertaining student’s views and perceptions of the Recreation & Wellness Department to recommend future development of Recreation & Wellness programs and services.•Oversee the use of, and policies related to, the Recreation & Wellness photo booth.•Develops documents for the Recreation & Wellness department including; marketing plans, handbooks, reports, brochures and other print and electronic documents as needed.•Maintains archives for all projects produced by Recreation & Wellness Marketing.•Contribute and edit content to the Recreation & Wellness website, social media, emails, digital screens, and printed materials; assist with website and social media maintenance as needed.•Promote products and services by establishing and maintaining relationships with the appropriate university and community members and vendors.•Develop a comprehensive, integrated marketing plan with measurable results, which incorporates effective, commercial-type promotion strategies while obtaining the maximum return on investment.•Design, implement and measure an effective sponsorship plan that involves local and regional businesses and builds partnerships for private support of the CSUSB Recreation & Wellness Department.Other Responsibilities: Evening/Weekend work responsibility as required•Assist with special projects and partnerships as assigned•Contribute to the fulfillment of the Recreation & Wellness mission and values•Enforce policies and procedures to promote participant safety and satisfaction•Respond to emergency situations and adhere to established protocols•Serves as a mandatory reporter for complaints under Title VII, Title IX and the Clery Act•Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director or Director of Recreation & Wellness
Minimum Requirements:[The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum education and/or hands-on experience necessary to perform each essential responsibility.]•Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university in marketing, communication, graphic design, public relations, or related field, and one or more years of directly related experience; preferably in college union, collegiate recreation, or comparable student services occupation, or equivalent combination of education and experience.•At least one year of professional experience preferably in Student Affairs or collegiate recreation programming and marketing management.•Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing, merchandising, promotions, public relations and communication techniques.•Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community.•Self-starter with the ability to function independently and ability to thrive in a team atmosphere. •Experience in Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office Suite, PC & MAC computers preferred.•Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.•Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.•Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions•Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, inclusivity, and balanced lifestyles.•First Aid/CPR certification or ability to attain it within the first month of employment•Able to demonstrate competency with video and/or graphic design at a professional level.Competencies:[The competencies listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential function.]Technical Competencies: Knowledge of marketing principles/best practices related to student affairs & campus recreation.•Some knowledge of student development practices in the higher education setting. •Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office, PC’s and MAC computers.
