The Carthage College Campus Recreation Program is currently accepting applications for two graduate assistant positions in the campus recreation program. Overview: As a graduate assistant in the Campus Recreation Program, you will be afforded opportunities and experiences in leadership, management, decision making, and experiential learning. The position also comes with the opportunity to advance academically through an accredited graduate degree program.
Purpose: The graduate assistants for the campus recreation program are responsible for assisting in the overall planning and execution of all areas of campus recreation including but not limited to personal training, group fitness, campus-wide events, etc. This position will also be active in other aspects of campus recreation as needed such as engaging in program committees, meetings, functions, program-specific training, and large-scale special events and initiatives. The graduate assistants for campus recreation will hold regular office hours as well as weekend and evening work expected.
Job Summary: Graduate assistants of campus recreation will oversee an undergraduate student lead and work closely with all student staff. Position requires approximately 20 hours per week with the willingness to work evenings and weekends.
Duties: Continue to advance the campus recreation program at Carthage College including but not limited to daily activity administration, special event coordination, recruiting, hiring, training, and development of student staff, assessment practices, reviews, reports and follow-up with other duties being assigned as needed.
Requirements: Must have a strong background working in campus recreation and programming. A candidate with at least two years experience working with or supervising campus recreation activities and holding group fitness/personal training certifications is highly preferred.
Education Requirements: Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a background in exercise and sports science including classes in management, programming, and supervision.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Characteristics: Individual should have excellent team work skills as well as excellent background in training/evaluating/assessing officiating and mechanics; knowledge of group fitness, personal training, and facility management; oral and written communication skills, basic computer skills.
